Dropbox for MacOS is now ready
I've got Dropbox installed on an M1 MacBook. After upgrading to Ventura 13.0 it brings up a notification. If I click on "Get started" and go through all the steps in the process it appears to work, but the notification never goes away, and doesn't have any method to manually remove it. I've tried restarting the Dropbox app, and restarting the whole computer. Neither make the notification go away.

I had the same problem on macOS Ventura 13.0.1.The Icon in the menu bar of the OS displays a new Notification. In the dropdown, there is a message "Dropbox for MacOS is now ready. Update Dropbox to use it on the latest version of macOS." This is already weird because I have already installed the latest version of dropbox. (161.4.4923)To get rid of it just click on "Getting Started" below this message. A new window should open now. If you keep this window open and click again on the Dropbox icon in the OS menu bar you should get another message. Click something to get rid of the second message. Now your Dropbox icon should no longer display a new notification.Now you can also close the window for updating dropbox.Sorry, this is just a temporary solution. The Notification will pop up again after a while.

Today, I got the notification on my Mac Dropbox app (Mac OS 13.2) that "Dropbox for macOS is now ready" with a Get Started link to update Dropbox. Clicking on that link took me to the update dialog that told me about the new app, with the new file location, etc. Going through all the update steps seemed to update the app and I had to sign in again, but no movement of files have taken place. My Dropbox files are still in User > Dropbox, not in the Cloud Storage folder (which doesn't even exist). I tried the update a few times with the same behavior each time. My Mac Dropbox app is on 166.4.2920, and I still have the notification to update.
It seems as if the download of the newest version is not happening. Anyone else experience this or know how to force the update to the newest version? What am I missing?

Hi sixstringbuzz, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you please clarify if you've given Dropbox full disk access as outlined here?
Also, did you reboot your computer since you first noticed this at all?

Hello Walter,
Thank you for the reply. I confirmed that Dropbox did already have Full Disk Access. There is no Dropbox item in my Accessibility settings, however. On my OS 13.2 Accessibility settings, I have sections for Vision, Hearing, Motor and General, and none have Dropbox as an item under them.
After confirming these settings, I restarted my machine and clicked through the upgrade process again, initiated by the banner notification in my Dropbox App, and that worked! The Dropbox folder has moved to Cloud Storage and everything appears to be in the new Dropbox configuration.

For a couple of weeks, Dropbox has had a a red (1) in the menu bar icon and an alert in the dropdown titled "Dropbox for macOS is now ready." Under that it says, "Update Dropbox to use it on the latest version of macOS. Get started." However, the app is updated to the latest version available for download, 162.4.5419 for Apple silicon on macOS 13.0.1.
Am I reading this correctly? Is it telling me there's a new version of Dropbox to download? As that is how I am interpreting it, I've clicked "Get started" and followed the steps, but the message still appeared. Since that didn't change anything, I then uninstalled Dropbox and all settings I could find and reinstalled from a newly downloaded Dropbox installer. That didn't solve it either. Do you have other suggestions?

don't update, as after this update dropbox will behave in a funny way, and dropbox staff will blame on apple OS
Basically there is compatibility issue between dropbox software and apples new macOS Ventura, and dropbox does not have any clue how to fix it.

Yes, exactly: after reinstalling the Dropbox application I am still getting the notification. I have tried reinstalling both by following the "Get started" steps and by downloading a fresh installer from the Dropbox website.

No matter how many times I try to download the new Mac update, it always pops back up in my notifications. To try to solve it, I've done what seemed to work for another user--gave full access in the Privacy settings for Dropbox, and then restarted. Still having the same issue. I get the notification in the Task Bar to update, I click and it says it will take 55 minutes, it closes Dropbox and asks me to log in and resync, and then the notification in the Task Bar shows up all over again.
Anyone know what's going on?

I am facing this problem since last 2-3 months, and I have raised this issue to dropbox as well.
On this forum some once from Dropbox will ask you to contact via email, and once you contact them via email, they will reply saying that " back end team is working on it" and they are not sure when they will be able to resolve the issue.
Pathetic service by DROPBOX, and useless developers of DROPBOX do not know how to solve the issue,

This on an M1 iMac running 13.1.
I have a red dot in the Menubar icon. Clicking it advises me that "DropBox for macOS is now ready." I follow all the instructions, logging in, etc. It then congratulates me and tells me that DropBox is installed. When I check, the version is v163.4.5456, but it fails to create ~/Library/CloudStorage and does not move my DropBox folder there. It is still in my home directory. And, the DrobBox menu bar still advises me that "Dropbox for macOS is now ready." I've gone through the installation three times now, but nothing changes.
What am I doing wrong?

Rebooting would be problematic at the moment. The machine (iMac) is shared between my wife and I. To reboot I'd need to close all the files that she has open. But, she's an attorney with lots of client confidentiality issues, so I don't feel comfortable doing that without her presence. We will be on the road beginning tomorrow until after New Year's Day.
So, rebooting will have to wait until she has time to log out. (There are downsides to being busy and successful.)
It seems crazy to have to reboot anyway.

I just updated my MacBook Air to Ventura 13.1. Dropbox as an app keeps "unexpectedly" quitting. I can access my Dropbox on lin.

I received the notice that a new version of Dropbox for macOS was available. The Dropbox icon in my menu bar has a notification flag. When I open it, I see the notification "Dropbox for macOS is now ready". I click the "Get started" link. I go through the entire process. I even reboot my Mac. After the reboot, the notification flag is still present and the notification is still in the Activity tab of the desktop app.
The email I received about this update had a "Learn more" link. I clicked it and learned this: "Your Dropbox folder will be moved to ~/Library/CloudStorage."
My Dropbox folder is still at "Macintosh HD > Users > paulharder2 > Dropbox".
I suppose I could uninstall Dropbox, delete my entire Dropbox folder, and reinstall it. I'd rather work within the system that Dropbox has designed.

So there's this message and a red exclamation mark telling me to upgrade to the latest Dropbox app for Mac, so I did, but the message and the red warning is still there. Why is it still telling me to upgrade when I already have?

After clicking on "Getting Started" below this message a new window opens. The first dialog tells me that the dropbox folder and files will be moved to a new secure location on this Mac. Hovering the "secure location" displays the location. After continuing and clicking on "Start" on the second dialog dropbox is going to restart.
After restarting the "secure location" does not exist (dropbox still using the old directory) and there is no "new shortcut in the Finder sidebar". The Notification on the icon in the OS menu bar is still there.- dustyoscHelpful | Level 5
I am repeatedly getting this pop up, and I've repeatedly followed the steps the installer gives me, and have restarted numerous times, but the prompt returns immediately again, and is almost permanently on my screen.
I am not clear from this forum what actually resolved the issue for others. Can someone please help?
Here are the steps I'm doing:
PoP up appears (Dropbox for macOS is now ready...")
Click the pop up (no response in this latest attempt, so I try a different way)
Going to the menu bar at the top of my Mac, click on the dropbox icon (with the orange 1 notification over it)
Click on the link to take action
"The latest version of Dropbox for macOS is now ready" (I know! Already installed, but I'll try again)
Click on Continue
"After the move, we'll confirm that your files are safe" (I click on start)
Box refreshes, icon on bottom left shows syncing progress
Sign in prompt, sign in again
"Well done! Dropbox is installled" (I don't believe you)
I click next
"Choose how to sync your files" (I choose make files local, I click "continue with basic")
Various prompts start appearing to back up external drives, I choose "Don't ask me again" and "Not now" (I'd like not ever, but I assume both of those together mean that)
"Want to keep your Mac backed up?" (no I don't, so I deselect all 3 folders, and now "Set up" is greyed out (IS THIS THE PROBLEM?), so all I can choose is "Not right now" so I select that
"Continue without backing up Mac?" (yes, I just said that, I select "Continue to Dropbox")
Finder appears, dropbox is there, but it appears to have the same path it always had, not sure if that's a problem
....and hooray, my notification area still says "Dropbox for macOS is now ready" and the menu bar icon still has an orange 1....
I'm not going to restart again
Can someone please help, this is driving me a bit nuts.

I am having the same issue of going through the entire "Dropbox for macos is now ready" process, several times, restarting, doing it again and again and again; restarting and doing it again. I have Dropbox as a login item on my 2021 M1 iMac running the most current version of Ventura. If I hover over the DB icon in my menu bar it says 168.4.4802 is up to date, whereas in Finder/Applications is shows my version as 168.4.4923, which I believe is the current version. If I quit DB from the menu bar, and then start up from within Finder/Applications, it places the DB icon back up there on my menu bar, but hovering over it still shows 168.4.4802 is up to date. I'm really getting tired of this.

In the menu bar on my MacBook Air, I have the dropbox icon with a red 1.
It has the message:
Dropbox for MacOS is now ready.I click "Get started" and I believe I complete the install and update.
But the Dropbox folder hasn't moved to the new location, and the icon and message are still there.
The Dropbox version I see in Preferences/General is
v167.4.4719
Since the update is being forced due to Apple's recent changes, I believe I must update Dropbox.
What am I failing to do to get the update?

Hello, I have tried to update dropbox on my MacBook Pro (Ventura 13.2.1) 4 times now as advised in recent email from dropbox. Despite going through this process, receiving and entering my security code and selecting the basic version, my dropbox folder has not moved from favourites to locations in finder. The dropbox icon is still showing the notification icon and when I open it, it still says " Dropbox for Mac OS is now ready" So it appears that the update has not happened.
