Dropbox thinks my PC is offline
Dropbox installer fails, saying "The installer could not connect to the Internet. Ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet and your firewall allows DropboxUpdate.exe to connect then try again".
But there's internet because I'm able to browse the internet just fine. I have Windows 11 Home 64bit.
So I tried installing using the Dropbox offline installer. I was able to install Dropbox, but when I try to start it, it still says "No internet connection. Your computer is currently offline. Please check your network settings."
Again, there is internet because I'm able to write this. Any ideas?
I only have Windows Defender now, but I used to have free trial of Mcafee that came with the computer but uninstalled it. I think it might be related?

- Update your software and operating system, as these updates often include patches for known vulnerabilities, and fix bugs and glitches that can lead to crashes or system instability.

Hello,
I have the famous error "Your computer is currently offline" when it is not. I tried all the tricks found by googling, but the error remains. I tried to follow the process with Process Moitor, made sure that the IP address range [removed per Community Guidelines] are fully accessible, but to no avail, the error just keeps popping up.
What is DropBox Windows desktop app looking for?

I am not getting to the point it asks for my credentials, since it thinks I am not connected to internet. I deactivated all firewall and anti-virus, even the real time of Defender. With Process Monitor, I see it sends out packets and then retransmit, for which I do not know what it means. Packets are going out, I even tried a route through a VPN that does not block any traffic at all, still same results.

This is obviously a compatibility issue with Windows 11, but Dropbox refuses to acknowledge it. They just keep giving the same response to each question and it hasn't fixed a thing. No one is having this problem on Windows 10.
Dropbox....Please stop being part of the problem and fix the issue. Stop blaming it on people's settings. The setting were no different on Windows 10 and everything was fine.
Do your homework and fix it.

Never had trouble on a dozen computers and operating systems over the past 13 years.

I turned Anti-virus, Firewall off and it's still showing the same error. Can't even start Dropbox.

Is the desktop app's icon showing up in your system tray at all?
Could you try the offline installer from this page one more time for me and let me know how it goes?
Also, if you happen to be on the Basic plan, make sure that you have no more than 3 connected devices to your account as you might be hitting the device limit.

whenever I try to open the Dropbox app, it give me an error "No internet connection: Your computer is currently offline. Please check your network settings". I've tried un-installing, then re-installing the app, no luck. The app was opening earlier, but when it was having some sync problems, I signed out then back in......thats when the app no longer would load at all.

Have you ensured that isn't caused by an antivirus or firewall you're using on your computer?
If you did, please send us a screenshot of the error you may be getting so that we can have a visual too.

Actually, since 1 month ago, I wasn't able to sync on dropbox on this laptop but my other laptop works fine with the same Wifi. It was stuck on syncing files. So I decided to reinstall everything.
Now after installing using the offline Dropbox installer again but instantly, the message said "No internet connection" again.
The laptop the dropbox icon now appears on the system tray, but it's still stuck at "Starting" and "connecting". I clicked "Signin" but nothing happens.
I'm not hitting the 3 device limit. I set it to No proxies ,deactivated Firewall, antivirus (Windows Defender) etc.
I even tried netsh winsock reset from CMD but Dropbox still doesn't work

I had the same problem with my laptop computer. I tried everything but I could not solve. Then I found out that the problem was about the free version of Dropbox desktop application. It supports an acount can be logged in 3 devices at the same time. Somehow, my laptop seemed as two different devices according to Dropbox. So I logged in to my Dropbox by Dropbox website then I deleted one of the laptop devices . (The other devices my PC and my Phone). Then the problem solved. It is a bit complicated so sorry for my English :))

Using desktop app on laptop with windows 10. I’ve just discovered that for about a month Dropbox wasn’t working. So my documents are not updated on other locations. The logo is gray. When I click on it it stays on connecting. Nothing happens. I already tried the following:
1. I checked for updates.
2. Closed and open app.
3. Checked internet (everything else works).
4. Checked for windows update
5. Disabled proxy
6. Checked for AppStore troubleshooting
7. Uninstalled and reinstalled Dropbox.

Hey Redalong, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Could you please try temporarily disabling any antivirus or firewall you might have running on your computer and try the offline installer from this page?

Thanks. I think I found the problem. Just not sure if there is anyway around it. I think the problem is something called Forticlient. I closed all other virus and firewall programs. But I can’t close this one. I asked IT but even they can’t close it. The official answer was: don’t use Dropbox (it’s laptop from work).
If anyone knows any way to solve except stopping to use Dropbox, I’d love to hear. But I’m afraid I don’t have much choice.

My Mobile app shows everything is fine. I have a PLUS account so can't he a restriction on number of devices.

no matter what I try dropbox keeps saying there is no internet. I have uninstalled and re-installed a dozen times, I've edited the registry, deleting dropbox instances, I've done every last thing suggested but all i get is
and to make matters worse, the best that dropbox offers is some useless automated support bot that doesn't answer anything..
why does dropbox refuse to talk to it's customers, users, subscribers?
