Cannot establish a secure connection after dropbox update to 111.4.472
After the dropbox app (Window 10) updates itself to the latest 111.4.472 version, I'm getting this 'Cannot establish a secure connection'.
I've checked my time on my laptop, router. It's fine. I've disabled firewalls and the whole Eset Security. I've checked my ports. Everything is fine. I've turned off the proxy setting inside app. Scanned my system for viruses, nothing fount. The only solution is to revert back to the older version, but if I do so, the app will update itself so I'm at the beginning.
I've just received some news that I'd like to share with you all here!
It appears that ESET has fixed the problem that was causing this error.
For anyone running ESET on their device, please update to the most recent version of ESET to update to the software.
Once you've done this, you should be fine to revert back to the latest stable version of the Dropbox desktop app. You can install this from here.
Otherwise, you can just allow the app to auto-update to the latest stable when a new version is released.
Let me know how it goes!

I have experienced the exac same thing. I've reviewed this with my son who works at Intel and is amazingly sharp with everything computer tech, and he tells me that this is not resolvable by individuals and that it falls on Dropbox to fix. Sucks! No warning...just that's it...DOA!

I've just moved your post here ashley_ucil and kellygirl, since you're having the same issue as the OP here.
Please try the beta version of the app to, which you can download here, and let me know how it goes.
Can you let me know if you've also tried this azreiner?

Turned off ESET to see if that is the problem. It was not. No idea what I am supposed to do with Proxy settings - no idea what those are or how to make adjustments to them (as was mentioned as a possible solution in other responses). Tried to uninstall and reinstall the program and that didn't work either. My laptop is working just fine with Eset on and syncing with no issues. Not sure what else to do.

Hi Lead Savvy, I've merged you to a thread with similar queries. Could you try installing the beta version of the Dropbox desktop application to see if this helps?
Keep me updated with any progress!

recently I changed to a new laptop and downloaded dropbox. initially, everything was working fine but 1 fine day dropbox show "can't establish secure internet connection" but my internet is working fine. tried reinstalling but doesn't work.
I checked the FAQ, switched off my firewall, and ESET anti-virus but the problem still exists.
Dropbox doesn't provide a step by step instructions in resolving this issue for tech-noob like me and they do not have an email where I can get help.
Please advise.

Thanks for your ongoing reports on this one people!
For those of you using ESET, could you try the following steps and let us know if this persists?
1. Open the main program window of your Windows ESET product.
2. Press F5 to access Advanced setup.
3. Click Web and Email, expand Protocol Filtering and then click the slider bar next to Enable application protocol content filtering to enable or disable this feature.
4. Look for "Excluded applications" and click on Edit.
5. Add Dropbox and Dropbox Update.
6. Click OK.
Note that you may need to reboot your machine(s) for this to take effect.
Keep us posted!

I was facing the same issue ("Can't establish secure internet connection") since a couple of hours now. I have version Dropbox v111.4.472 and ESET on Windows 10.
I followed the steps from Walter (some posts before):
"For those of you using ESET, could you try the following steps and let us know if this persists?
1. Open the main program window of your Windows ESET product.
2. Press F5 to access Advanced setup.

4. Look for "Excluded applications" and click on Edit.
5. Add Dropbox and Dropbox Update.
6. Click OK."
and restarted the laptop.
It seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for this!

Hello
Currently running version 111.4.472 on my laptop.
I've been unable to sync my dropbox desktop app on my laptop for 4 days now. I have loaded items into my dropbox iPhone app with no problems but it won't sync to my desktop app on my laptop.
Have been receiving the below error messages:
1. Dropbox can't make a secure connection because your computer's date and time are incorrect. Please update your date and time settings. DONE - doesn't make any difference!2. Can't establish secure internet connection. INCORRECT - I'm online typing this message!
3. Your computer is currently offline. Please check your network settings. INCORRECT - I'm online typing this message!
Could someone please advise how to fix this error ASAP. I'm unable to operate my virtual business if my dropbox app on my desktop doesn't work!

Hi there.
A few minutes ago, I got a red X on my Dropbox icon. If I go with my mouth over the icon, I have a message "cannot establish secure internet connection". I had the same problem in a second PC about few days ago and could not solve it. The time is correct. Why suddenly it happened and what can I do to resolve it?

I have been seeing it too ... First one notebook, then a second notebook, now my desktop
I have tried all of the suggestions I could find using Google search ... in my case, the date/time is correct; proxys yes/no don't matter; and disabling the firewall does not matterYes, we need help

Me too ... Windows 10 has done some usual updates (weekly) them a traditional reboot ...
This morning the red flag, and nothing seems to help.

I have the same problem and i have read on the internet that it is a common problem after updating to dropbox 111.4.472. I hope dropbox will solve the problem and correct the update.
- EricAnnegarnExplorer | Level 4
How long will that take? How do we escalate the issue so someone pays attention?
- Lars BNew member | Level 2
I think Dropbox must solve the problem!!! It is something in their latest update that is the problem.

DB Fix this. Same problem all over the globe.

Same problem this morning. Windows 10, ESet av, Dropbox just updated to 111.4.472. I can reach Dropbx.com but cannot sync.

Walter's ESet instructions worked for me, too. Thanks. (They were very clear instructions for a non-techie like me!)

Grazei

Dropbox cant connect to internet however all connection tests result good. Does anyone know how can I solve this issue?
- jlrx81New member | Level 2
I am having the same issue, first started on a laptop, then it appeared on another computer.
Tells me my time is wrong (it's not) and then tells me it can't establish a secure connection.
It's been over a week now.
