Shared link won't go away

In the app for Iphone I keep receiving a message that someone has shared a link with me to a file. I dismiss the message but it comes back next time I open the app. I also keeps coming back if I view the file. I contacted the person that shared the link and he said as far as he can see it is not shared with me. He unshared the file and deleted it. But the shared link message keeps coming up on my phone. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it but that has not helped.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of this message.

  • Hi Jay,

There is nothing in either of those.

However, the popup message no longer appears on either my phone or my wife's! I have not changed anything but the result is good!

I guess our phones were scared because I started talking to you - you rock!

    Thanks,

    Tony

    Hi,
I can’t use the app any more, since I get an infinite loop of messages that some one wants to share a link with me.
This link is 9 years old from a former colleague.
Whatever I do, the message keeps returning.
Reinstalling the app did not help.

    Best,
    AlBauer

Hi AlBauer, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Is this a shared link to a file, or a shared file? How is it blocking the usage of the Dropbox mobile app?

Could you attach a screenshot showing the message you're getting, while hiding any names or emails?

This will help me to assist further!

        • Hi Jay,

it is a shared file via Dropbox.
I can use the app but this message keeps popping up and it is a nuisance.

i can’t see the option to attach a screenshot 😞

        Kind regards,
        Al Bauer

Thanks for the image, could you check if there are any notifications in the bell icon?

Could you also check that there aren't any shared files on this page?

Hey Jjph, thanks for letting us know about this.

If you open the Dropbox app and tap on 'account', then on the gear icon and then on 'clear cache', does it help?

If not, please send us a screenshot of the pop-up; just make sure to edit out any personal info.

      Thanks in advance!

It doesn’t help, even uninstalling and installing doesn’t help, both in my iphone and my ipad. My PC doesn’t have that issue

The message is more or less:

        “FILE SHARED WITH YOU

John has invited you to see the file Category 5 Title 2.doc

        Not now / Open”

John Doe is a friend of mine

    Hi

Since a couple of months the mobile Dropbox app (on iOS) keeps showing a message when it's started.

The message refers to a shared folder from a school project some years ago, but I can't see the folder so I can't leave the shared folder.

Weirdly the message shows, disappears immediately, and is then shown again until I hit the "ignore" button (left).

Screenshot is in Dutch, it's saying "<someone> has shared <school project folder> with you"

If I hit the "show" button (right) I get another message saying the link couldn't be opened.

I've been searching the app and the website for any traces of this folder so I can leave it, but haven't found anything, no results show up when using the search function with the exact folder name.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Czyo5S7rb1!

Can you please check your Shared page via a computer, and let me know if you see anything relevant there?

Can you also clear your mobile app’s cache, and reinstall it on your device?

Reinstalling the app on mobile doesn't seem to help.

When I visit the shared page I see an empty list.

The lists on the other tabs (recent, folder, links, signatures) are also empty.
