How do I cancel my Dropbox Basic plan / account?

How do I cancel my Dropbox Basic plan / account? I don't want any semblance of a plan or account on Dropbox. I don't want to be able to sign in, I've already permanently deleted all my files, and I don't want to see old referral email addresses or any other of my info on Dropbox.

Thank you!

  • Hi John W.134, thanks for posting on the Community.

It sounds like you're interested in completely deleting your Dropbox account.

You can do so by following these steps. This will permanently remove your account, and there won't be a way to log back into it or regain access to any existing files.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know!

I would like to at least downgrad or even delete my DropBox account as I haven't used it for years. However, if I log on to my account, the actual option to cancel or downgrade my (Basic) plan is not visible (on my current two laptops; accounts accessed though a browser).

Next I tried accessing DropBox on my iPhone: again no option (in settings) to either cancel or downgrade my subscription through than app. Next I tried to do the same on my iPad (as I may have subscribed from an iPad back in 2013...) and then the app says "Device limit reached". BTW: I cannot even check the devices that are associated with my account.

In other words: I'm going around in circles without the option to cancel my subscription, which is even illegal where I live (in the Netherlands, Europe).

Anybody know the steps I need to walk through to cancel (or downgrad) my subscription per the last versions of the website (accessed through Safari browser) or the iPhone app? Many thanks!

Hey AROS_NL, I'd be happy to help!

If you upgraded using an iPad, then there's a chance that your subscription is administered by Apple.

Can you try following the steps shown here

Keep in mind that if you see "Basic" under your plan page, that would mean that you don't have a paid subscription with us.

      Let me know the results.

Hi Megan. Thank you for your effort but I do NOT have a Dropbox subscription through Apple. On the bank transaction, there is a reference to DropBox under 350435385. Is that something that helps sove this mystery? Thanks!

You can delete account by clicking Icon with initials in upper right hand corner > settings > General > scroll to bottom and select delete account.

The Basic plan is free and has no subscription, which is why there's nothing to cancel.

If you're on the Basic plan and you're being charged, then you're being charged for a different account. Use the credit card charge lookup tool to identify the account you're being charged for.

Hey Pathhbvg, just to clarify, do you have a paid subscription that you wish to cancel?

Or just to delete your Dropbox Basic account? Asking because Dropbox Basic is the free version of Dropbox.
