Why can't I open Microsoft files on my mobile device?
I updated my iPad Pro & now I can't open Dropbox files in Microsoft apps. I can see Dropbox, and I can open in other apps (Adobe, for instance), but Word, Excel, etc. tell me that the server is gone or the files are no longer on the server. But they are where they belong, and I can open them on other devices.

- ErinAnneHelpful | Level 5My iPad isn’t on my cell plan so there’s no cellular in the settings. It worked this morning to pull up documents from Dropbox into word to edit them, and now it won’t work and just keeps giving me the error message “No network connection”. However, it is connected to the network, all the other apps work, and I’m able to save things from online TO Dropbox, and view them on Dropbox. I just can’t open them in word. HELP! I got this dang iPad to do schoolwork, and now I can’t.
- GabychiscoNew member | Level 2Same here but with every single office app in my iPhone. It seems the connection between Dropbox and MS office apps is down
- ErinAnneHelpful | Level 5That makes me feel better at least. Maybe I’ll check back later to see if it’s up and running. 😰
- Terry M.32New member | Level 2Same here. If true that MS did an update that says bug fixes and reallly disabled Dropbox then I am done with MS. Moving to Apple Apps.

...Why? I don’t want to use OneDrive. Used DropBox for -years- that that’s all I’m used to.
Man, I hope they’ll recant this horrid decision soon. WTFH...
- david u.4Helpful | Level 5Same here. On s9+. Word app won't recognize dropbox. Uninstalled and reinstalled both apps. That didn't help.

"Sorry, we could not find <filename>. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?"
It has not been moved, renamed or deleted.
It has only just happened since I updated the app to version 130.2.2.- babygrandNew member | Level 2
All of a sudden this week, I can't access my Excel or Word Dropbox files using my android tablet or phone, only my pc.

- KlompelompeNew member | Level 2When trying to open a Word document from my dropbox app, both on my iphone and ipad, I keep getting the error message: Can’t be opened. The file may be relocated, renamed or deleted.
I’ve tried to update the dropbox app. I’ve checked at the office, where they were able to open the files at my computer. Does anyone have a solution? We need the documents for a meeting.- FishtankbrainNew member | Level 2I have this issue too - started this morning!
- popjacqNew member | Level 2
I have updated my iPad Dropbox app to version 130.2 and now each time I try to access documents in Word for iPad I get a server error message. When I try to get access to docs via the Dropbox app Word for iPad returns the message, 'Can't open the file. Sorry, [filename].docx is stored in an unsupported server location.

Error began today...cannot open folder on server. The folder may have been moved, renamed, or deleted.” It was all good last night then this morning can’t get into any of my files and I did not do anything to cause this issue...is Dropbox server down? It is happening on all my devices.

Hello
Hope you can help me. Yesterday all worked perfectly.
Today Im having trouble getting into my dropbox from the word app (all office) on my ipad. I can get straight into my files on the dropbox app but cannot open them in word, edit them or access any dropbox file through any office ios app.
Please help! This has been driving me crazy.
- kirstyhillHelpful | Level 5it appears to be an issue since the new dropbox update, see previous messages, dropbox are working to fix it :)

Exactly what I am experiencing currently on both my iPad Pro adn my iPhone... Any solution yet?
- XpouiiNew member | Level 2Having this same issue plus I can’t even open files on Dropbox to read them. I’m going slightly insane supposed to be working and now I can’t. The website “help email” form won’t even work for me because I can’t select a device to ask a question. Tearing my hair out.

We were having the same issue with excel through Dropbox. I found a way to fix the path between dropbox and excel. Probably will work with Word Also.
1) Go directly to Excel (bypass dropbox)
2) On the left hand side you will see a Folder with the word Open under it – click on that.
3) Dropbox will show up in the dropdown list under “other locations” – click on that.
4) Your dropbox files list will show up to the right.
5) Click on the file you want - edit it and click on back to dropbox.
in our case it re-created the path and saved the edit and we could then access through dropbox the next time.
Hope it helped

I am going through the same issues, any solution?
- RemyLeroyHelpful | Level 5
Exactly the same issue here... I hope it's only a bug and the Dropbox access will be restored by Microsoft.
I don't think they want to force us using OneDrive as I still have access to other online servers such as the one from Box.com and I am proposedevent other services if I choose to add a new one (edmodo, HKT cloud service, and so on)
- GlanvillNew member | Level 2Same here! I can't open my excel, word and powerpoint files from dropbox to microsoft apps in both ipad and samsung note. This is frustrating!

Me too, on two iPads and my iPhone. I don’t remember updating my iPhone lately, but I did update both iPads w/in the past 48 hours or so.
Error message reads “Can’t open file. Office can’t find MYFILENAME.xlsx. It may have been moved, renamed, or deleted.”
I tried with several other Excel docs, same response. I also tried with various Word docs, again same response.
Just tried opening on my PC. Opened fine. Issue between Dropbox and iOS??
- JuunasExperienced | Level 12
I'm having the same problem, both on stable and beta versions of Dropbox iOS app and Microsoft Office iOS apps. Same problem occurs when trying to open a Dropbox file in Office apps from inside Dropbox, from inside Office app or when trying to add re-add the Dropbox account. I have also reported this to Microsoft.
- FredC74Helpful | Level 5
Microsoft Community support suggest this is a Dropbox issue - it’s version 130.2 that’s the issue & previous version is ok - see below.
- RemyLeroyHelpful | Level 5
It seems to me that the issue is in the dialog between the latest version of Dropbox and the latest versions of Office apps as I reinstalled the previous versions of Excel, Word and PowerPoint (but I kept the latest version of Dropbox) and it works.

Shocking!
Unable to open office files (.docx .xlsx .pptx) using Dropbox on mobile phone and iPad.
I can open the office files before, but I can't open office files today(using office 365).
An error message will appear →Sorry, .docx is stored in an unsupported server location
Only office files cannot be opened with office 365, but PDF files can be opened with adobe acrobat reader
I can still open the office files of dropbox on my PC using office 365
Isn't office 365 now supporting dropbox for mobile phones or iPad? - NlavoratoNew member | Level 2
Pls note i can't link Dropbox with Microsoft Office apps since today. How can i solve it?
- DeeDeeBNew member | Level 2
Use Browse to go into Dropbox and open the file. You cannot add dropbox as a place at the moment on iOS devices and it is not appearing as normal when you go into Microsoft appns. So use Browse or “....more” to find dropbox.
- DRF-01Explorer | Level 4
Yep, I deleted Dropbox from my connected services via Word for iPad, thinking I needed to reinstall it and now I get get it back.
