I see a runtime error from DropboxUpdate.exe every time I boot my Windows 11 device.

I keep getting this error in a Windows pop-up dialog box, when I boot up my Windows 11 Pro computer:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Update\DropboxUpdate.exe

R6030 - CRT not initialized

I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Dropbox, twice.

  • I have not seen the error since reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application yesterday.
    If I see it again I will post but that may have fixed the issue.

    Thank you! 😊

    Hey Jon9999, thanks for posting about this here.

    What's the app version of Dropbox on your computer?

    Did you notice this error appear after any updates on your OS/Dropbox app?

    Let me know and we'll go from there.

      I got this error today, Sat 17th Aug 2024. Dropbox tooltip says "DropBox 205.4.5765". Windows 10 Home. There was a Windows update yesterday. Has this caused a problem? Will this persist? What is the cause? I have had this error in the past as well. Why does it keep recurring?

        Hey @Saiph, according to Microsoft, the reason for this issue could be related to antivirus programs interfering with DLL loading.

        Can you take a look at the article here, to see if it helps?
