Dropbox macOS 11 Big Sur Problem: Finder Integration and Smart Sync
Dropbox version v110.3425 in macOS 11 is not showing integration in the finder menu. It is also not showing smart sync notifications in finder windows. Anyone else have this problem?
- Thanks for the added info MartinL1!
Could you please try the following steps:
-Click on the Dropbox icon
-Open your Activity Monitor from your Mac Utilities folder
-Search for "Dropbox" in the search bar, and click the "x" on the top left, to force quit everything related to Dropbox
-Re-start Dropbox from the applications folder by double clicking on the Dropbox application
-Click on the Apple icon in the top left of your screen
-Click on "force quit"
-Relaunch the finder
Thanks!

DROPBOX - YOU ARE KILLING US HERE. For months the finder integration comes and goes at random, but mostly just goes. This is happening consistently to every single Mac user in our office, regardless of what OS or hardware we are using (I'm on the latest Big Sur but others are not). We all have pro-accounts that we are paying a good chunk of money to you in order to have a working product. This issue is grinding our productivity to zero and introducing elements of technical frustration to our workflow that is just unacceptable. Every single day without fail, we go to access the Dropbox finder menu to interact with a file only to have the extension be unresponsive, nonexistent, or missing key functions. We then have to re-navigate to that file either using your pointless and redundant app or via web browser. The disruption to our workflow is tangible, and obviously shared by many Dropbox users around the world - yet the best "solution" you can offer is to reinstall (which is frustrating, time-consuming, confusing and DOESN'T WORK). **bleep**ING DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ALREADY.

Same kind of issue on Big Sur : SmartSync icons not showing in the finder.
ps: the Finder integration seems to be ok : the dropbox actions do appear in the right click menu on files/directories.

Similar here, but no integration at all – not in Finder window's toolbar, nor in contextual menus.

I downloaded and re-installed the dropbox app. The account had to re-sync but it is now showing smart sync status. Try that.

I downloaded and installed v110.4.458 but still no finder intergration or contextual menu options for Dropbox.

It's back now, but I needed to remove all components manually and install from scratch. A simple re-install wasn't suffice.

@devilsinkpot, can you pass on what you did to remove all the components? I dragged Dropbox from the Applications folder to the trash and reinstalled with a download but that didn't work. Perhaps also deleting the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Dropbox?

Issue is in Finder I would say, after Force Quit and relaunch of Finder it works.

This has been a problem with Finder and Dropbox for some time. I suspect this is why Dropbox created there own finder-like app, limited as it is. The solution is for Apple and Dropbox to start playing nice together, or for Apple to improve its own cloud storage capabilities. I suspect the latter is the future. I restart the Finder 5 x a day to get it to recognize Dropbox. Microsoft and Google are also cloud options.

I solved! And I confirm from my side, it's a findeer problem with MacOs update.
This was my way:
1. Go dropbox folder in your finder
2. right click
3. go to "quick actions" (under tags) and click on submenu "customize"
4. a window "extentions" will open.
5. On left index go to "Finder extensions"
6. Deactivate and re-activate "Dropbox Finder Extension"
Now all works just fine!

Hi everyone. Is this problem solved?
I have re-installed Dropbox multiple times but it only lasted an hour before.

I found that I needed to completely uninstall and reinstall Dropbox using the steps on this page:
https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/desktop/advanced-reinstallI was already running the latest version of Big Sur and Dropbox as of 29-Dec-2020.

I am now on 13.3.427. No resolution. Working with Dropbox support for weeks on this issue, now escalated to the 3rd tech. I have done multiple advance reinstalls. No progress. I will report if anything is resolved.

Same. After reinstalling DB, no sync icons, and no right-click menu.
(MBP 16", MacOS 11.1)

Thanks for joining us here gourmetbooks.
Can you let me know which version of the app you have installed? You can hover over the Dropbox icon in the menu bar to see this.

It seems like you're running a beta version of our desktop app gourmetbooks.
Could you follow the steps I posted earlier and let us know if it helped improve matters for you?
In your case now ur0drivr, I'd suggest re-installing the app as it might do the trick for you.
If it doesn't though, you may want to attempt a clean, advanced re-install as well.
Keep us posted!

Disabling early releases worked! I don't even remember flipping that on, but then, it could've been any time in the last 10+ years. ☺️ Thanks again.

I'm having the same issue, I can't open the DB app and am on the same version of MacOS using a 15" MBP.
I have tried installing the DB app again. The installer runs but when it gets to the end the windows close and I still can't open the app.
I noticed the icon in the menu bar is square with rounded corners, while the install of the new one is running it shows as a full circle. This indicates that the old version is still installed and the new one is not - not sure if this is relvant but thought it good to mention.

Hi Grey_Matter, if you're not on a Dropbox Basic plan with more than 3 devices connected, could you try an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?
Keep me updated with any progress!
