All of the sudden I can't attach files from Dropbox in emails
For some reason, I can no longer attach files from my Dropbox folders. When I go to attach a file and click on Dropbox it now only brings up recent history. It has always pulled up my entire folder system but now I can't see them. I use a Macbook Pro and this is the case with both Mac Mail and also Outlook. The Dropbox icon is not showing up in my Favorites sidebar. If I go to the app icon on the top of the screen I can go to my folders but I can't get there from email. I used to be able to open Finder and Dropbox was in my Favorites list and I could get to it there but I can't any longer. Thanks for your help!

Hi Hunadi, let's jump right into this!
As a first step, can you let me know the steps are you taking on your end? Also, which platform and OS do you use?
Do you use our Dropbox for Gmail add-on?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

Hey jthomson99, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
It sounds like you may have been updated to the latest version of the desktop app for Mac OS. Could you let us know the desktop app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar?
In the meantime, you can download the files you'd like to attach in your email from our website locally to your computer and attach them from there.
Keep us posted please!
- CdelangeNew member | Level 2Im having the same issue from my I-phone 14 pro. I can access directly from the Dropbox app but when i use the “attach a file” from inside an email and go to the dropbox location it says the folder is empty.

- CheritaNew member | Level 2What was the solution for the last query, as I have the same exact problem. When I use Gmail on my Samsung S22 Ultra and try to attach a file from Dropbox it goes back to the email screen and a prompt comes up saying "Couldn't Attach File."
However, if I go to Dropbox first and share a file and click Gmail, the file is attached.
If I start a new email from within Gmail or respond to someone's email, it will not attach. - YannalfoExplorer | Level 3Has there been any resolution here?
I've been having this issue for months. Thought it was an issue with my phone but I bought a brand new phone and am still having this issue.
Really disappointed in this being an issue with Dropbox.
Integration with Gmail is kind of the whole point of Dropbox.- MeganDropbox Staff
Hi Yannalfo, thanks for posting here, how are you today?
Due to recent OS changes and changes with the Gmail app, the option to `Attach From Dropbox` is no longer available.
I'd encourage you to start the email from Dropbox app following these steps:
In the Dropbox app go to the overflow menu (3 dots)
Select: Send Copy of File
Select: Gmail
Compose email and click send
Keep in mind that our team is aware of how this problem is affecting your work, however I don’t have a specific timeline right now, but I’ll let you know as soon as I have an update. Thanks!
- YannalfoExplorer | Level 3Yikes. I send attachments most commonly on reply emails, sending from the Dropbox app isn't a viable solution.
At least I now know I can stop trying to fix this issue.
Unfortunately, I'll have to find an alternative solution to Dropbox. It was a good run lol
