Folders not visible to Admins

We have outsourced the Team Admin role on our business account to a 3rd party. We want to see the totality of folders and subfolders etc. that have been created in our Dropbox Business Standard account. Our Team Admin says they can't see all root level folders unless they have been given specific permission to view them. Is that correct? Is there a way for an Admin to see all folders that have been created without having to assign them read permissions to every folder? How can we assign permissions to folders we can't see and don't know if they exist?

  • I'm afraid that non-shared folders can only be accessed by the user that creates them.

There is a 'sign in as user' feature, with which an admin can sign in to a member's account, however, that's currently available to Dropbox Business Advanced plans.

Hey DN4, welcome to our Community and thanks for the question.

Indeed, if a team admin is not a member of a folder, they won't be able to see it in their 'all files' page.

They can be added to folders by others, or they can actually add themselves, from the 'content' tab in the admin console.

That's the place where they should be able to see all team folders in the account.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks Hannah. I will get the Team Admin to try this.

So, my Team Admin has told me your reply only applies to Team folders and Shared folders but does not apply to folders users have created themselves at the root level and have not been shared. If this is the case, how can we see what other root level folders have been created?

I am the Team admin and in the content page on Admin console I cannot see my own folder. It says "not authorized to browse <folder>" (folder is called <first_name last_name>)

I am able to see and work on the folder in ordinary mode

Hey cipherguru, thanks for letting us know about this.

Can you please send us a screenshot of the error, if possible?

Is this what you see if you login from a different browser or a private browsing window as well?
