Speed Optimization for Dropbox over 10Gbe Fiber?

I've got a nice 10Gbe connection at my office and can verify the speed using speedtest.net.

When uploading / downloading from Dropbox (in finder, not browser), my actual speed hovers around 75-85 Megabytes/second. This is about 1000 Megabits/second, which is only ~10% of my available bandwidth.

I do not have any bandwidth limits in my preferences. Any ideas on how to speed things up here??
  • cancant, Take in mind that during the test you performed the most suitable (usually closer to your ISP) measure point is selected. Don't get confused by the results!!! They usually shows how fast is the connection between you and your ISP, but this doesn't mean that you have the same speed to all host all over the world! Such results are not reliable - better count as actual speed result whatever you measure directly (either to Dropbox or any other host - something that can vary - it depends on your ISP connections to outside world). 😉

    Good luck.

I know that I'm getting at least 3.5Gbe in practice from a host server in the UK to USA. I'm wondering what Dropbox is capable of. It seems only 1Gbe at best...

In addition to what Здравко said, keep in mind that each file that syncs gets hashed, compressed, and indexed, then transferred, encrypted, and stored on the Dropbox servers. That entire process is included in the aggregate speed that's displayed in the Dropbox sync status. In other words, it's not just a raw transfer speed and can't be directly compared to the upload and download speeds provided by your ISP or reported by a speed test.
