Won't stop indexing on Mac
I installed the mac dropbox update and the application began indexing my files. It has now been stuck for the last few days. I can only access some files. Many are now only available through dropbox....

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your patience while we investigated. We have confirmed that the problem with resyncing has been resolved with macOS Sonoma 14.1. Users should not experience a resync when upgrading to 14.1.
Upgrading to 14.1 will prevent resyncing, but it will not resolve this issue for users who have already become 'stuck' on the resync upon upgrading to 14.0. We can help, but we're asking that users contact support for individual assistance.
Regards,
Ben

Same problem. After the Sonoma Update, Dropbox didn't sync data and after deinstalling the APP, its imposible to reinstall. Lucky to put o date didn't do the update on the MAC Book!

Has anyone happened to try updating to MacOS Sonoma 14.1? The update was released yesterday.

Hi cloudres, I updated to macOS 14.1 yesterday and indeed... it's not fixed. So my prediction was wrong here!
matthi: you're right, I am puzzled by why Dropbox is not reaching all its Mac customers, telling them not to upgrade (as they did previously on a certain 12.X update) or do so at their own risk. The communication level is quite poor this time. A simple pop-up on Macs would have done the job.
CHRISTIAN ARCOS: no, I am not a Dropbox employee. I am a user like we all are here, experiencing the same issue as you do. It's not because I emitted the hypothesis that the issue may be due to Apple that I am defending Dropbox in this case.
Programming is complicated. Betas don't allow to fix all the issues. What is particularly disappointing is Dropbox's lack of communication.

I fixed it with a patch called OneDrive. Problem solved. At least I don’t have to listen to the garbage the official Dropbox support is spewing anymore. Toodaloo.

Hello again fellow sufferers,
Below is the latest advice I have received.
If you look carefully at the steps, essentially it is signing out, and signing back in. Something most of us have done, and some of us many, many times.
I post it here, just to pass this on. Maybe it will work for someone.
I have also done full erase and reinstall of Ventura 13.6 on two Mac's, thinking that Sonoma was the problem. But the problem of being stuck indexing persists on Ventura 13.6 and now 13.6.1 after full erase and reinstalls.
I wish I had some good news for you all, but I can't find a way to fix this problem and after all the weeks this problem has been known, it is clear that Dropbox does not know of a way to solve this problem.

Thank you for taking the time to write back to me!
Please follow the steps below and let me know if the same issue persists:
Step 1: Unlink the device from your account
- Right-click the Dropbox icon in the menu bar (macOS).
- Click your profile picture or initials on the top right and select "Preferences."
- Go to the Account tab.
- Click "Sign out.
- Click Sign out again to confirm.
Step 2: Rename the "Dropbox" folder
- Right-click the folder and select "Rename."
- Rename it to "Dropbox (Old)."
Step 3: Relink the Dropbox account
- Relaunch the Dropbox application.
- Click the Dropbox icon.
- Enter your login credentials when prompted.
- Choose your desired file sync settings and click "Continue."
- After successful installation, click "Advanced Settings" at the bottom.
- Under Selective Sync, click "Select Folders"
- Unselect all folders for selective sync and click "Update."
The process is complete. Let the application sync; it should quickly say "Up to date" since no data is syncing locally.
You can gradually add folders for local sync, but be aware of the 300,000 file limit, which may cause issues if exceeded.
Please let me know if the above steps helped. Looking forward to your reply!
Kind regards,
Katherine
