- Hi everybody,We’d like to provide an update on this topic:Keep in mind that you can completely hide the Recents section with the new modular home layout on mobile:1. Open the Dropbox mobile app.2. Tap the customize icon (artist palette) 🎨3. To add or remove a default section, tap the toggle next to Recents, Starred, Camera Uploads, 4. Viewed links, Shared, or Offline.5. Tap Save to save your changes. You can find more info in here. Also, based on your comments, our team is working on improving the recents list update (when an item is deleted remotely). Thank you for sharing your feedback on this. We'll keep you in the loop for future features related to this.Sam

I've been a subscribed user for a long time and it seems this privacy issue won't get addressed. My cancelled subscription won't phase you, but understand that this problem is severe enough to consider moving my business elsewhere as well as have my team use a different service. A simple "Clear Recent" or "Disable Recent" is all that is needed to satisfy this concern.

Moving my service to box. My company is also looking to sign up 70 users to box, as well as us becoming a reseller due to the fact Dropbox don't care.

I'm adding my .02 .... This feature is a horrible decision for me. I've been a dropbox user for almost 10 years. Yesterday I had a choice to make Google Drive or Dropbox Pro. You guys just made that decision simple and easy.
I understand the decision to try this and maybe I understand the decision to implement it. BUT when you have user after user giving the very clear reasons why we dont like this, why stay with it ?? Is it worth your reputation ? Is it worth all the hard work you put into being a pioneer in the consumer cloud storage space ?
It's time to let go of the egos and listen to your users, before you lose more.

Thanks? No Sir. The issue is not the initial default view. It is the view itself and not being able to clear it or disable it.
To me this is just the development team staying to costumers, let us tell you what you want, We want you to like what is the easiest thing for us to implement. Now shhh ...

Dropbox is not listening. This may allow for going to the last tab viewed but it doesn't solve the core issue. The core issue is that we want a simple preference that allows us to turn off the tracking and display of recent files. Making the recent tab one click removed doesn't offer any real protection against either the accidental display of files or intentional snooping to see what files were accessed recently.
Turning off the recent tab has almost no obstacles in terms of interface design implications or complexity of dev effort. Dropbox is simply choosing not to allow us to turn of the recents tab...which is what most of the users in this forum want. Dropbox is simply prioritizing their view of how we SHOULD use the product ahead of how we WANT to use the product. Dropbox is essentially saying that they aren't willing to do the work to satisfy the customers who don't want their files tracked and displayed in the recents tab.
They have the right to execute their view (which I don't prefer) and we have the right to choose another solution. I'm busy enough that I haven't bothered to switch yet personally, but we chose Google Drive for my 75 person company primarily because of this issue. (I'm happy to verify this statement with Dropbox reps if they want to reach out directly)
So, Dropbox won 1 battle and lost another. Eventually I'll switch over personally as well if they don't change this but they know most of us will just complain for a while rather than take the time to move our files and re-log our devices into another service. It's a really competitive market for storage, though, so you'd think they'd take advantage of the easy wins...

Maybe if the problem were fixed the personal attacks would cease. They arise from nearly 2 years of inaction on what seems to be a simple problem.
- Dforster2016Helpful | Level 5Yes, I believe this is an necessary feature (being able to CLEAR THE RECENTS TAB) and I'm surprised Dropbox has not delivered this. Please make this a priority in a future releases.
- Al-9000New member | Level 2This is privacy 101 stuff. Hard to believe that "recents" are viewable after deleting them and emptying the trash.
As a paying Dropbox user and fan of the product, I find this unacceptable. This should be a first priority update. Thank you.- OutSideTheBoxExplorer | Level 4
iPhone SOLUTION
This works on my iPhone 5c
1. Select file you want removed from recent list.
2. Make available offline.
3. Go back to recents
4. select offline on bottom of iPhone
5. select file in offline list
6. Remove from device.
7. go back to recents and you will see it is gone.
You will also want to go to DropBox.Com with your browser and delete the recents on their website a file at a time.

It's really quite unbelievable they can't (or won't ) add this simple feature. I'm starting to look at alternative systems because of this. Clearly they aren't paying attention.

As of December 28, 2017, this problem still exist; on my Mac browser Recent files/pics are listed for anyone to see whenever I open DB. This has caused a major problem when someone saw private pictures when they opened DB on a shared device.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that DB is not concerned about customers, especially those that are not paying for the service. They have determined that it is actually beneficial for them to lose these customers through attrition and dissatisfaction. For some odd reason though, they have lumped some paying customers in to the same group and prevented them deleting Recent or giving the option to clear/hide Recent items. I spent an hour reading over these hundreds of comments in hopes of finding a solution, and it was a waste. Now, however, I know that DB is not for me or my business.
