Dropbox is re-syncing my files again?
Why on earth is this happening ?!? its resyncing everything again nothing has been changed why ?
I don't recall any changes to the OS etc. It didn't say re-indexing, it said updating and the number of files kept increasing. After one or two days it was still going like crazy.
I found online somewhere that I should delete filecache.dbx. I did that, restarted dropbox. Now it did re-index all files, but this only took a couple of hours. I've not had a problem since.
I think it would be nice if Dropbox would pay attention to this sort of thing in a more timely fashion for paying customers.

Same problem on OS X - it had disconnected my business dropbox and offered to connect it. Then it started downloading all files again - very very very annoying.

I am leaving cloud services for handling massive media. They are too slow up and downloading. Managing photos has been a major issue, with Dropbox losing tens of thousands of photos for me.

Can we ask Dropbox to download the newest pics first then re-sync itself? Terribly frustrating not being able to reach data. Maybe a pause button? I delete and add files on a daily basis, when this "re-sync" occurred it takes forever to correct itself YES I have a super fast computer with TONS of space and the highest speed internet connection. Since I delete so many files I have to sit here and constantly tap my iphone telling it to "give up" on an upload fail, since I deleted it already from my phone/dropbox spaces in the universe. THIS is highly annoying. Wont progress until I say "retry" or "give up" Who's bright idea was this?

Same here- this has been going on for nearly a year now. Over the last few months it just seems to chew up all of my CPU "indexing" or syncing a single file but it amounts to the same thing. PAIN.

Opened the computer, almost 800 000 files syncing, wlan connection slowing down. Am I supposed to just wait until it's done?
- SanchezDropbox StaffHey DOsinga & akokkone,A re-indexing is a possibility, but it shouldn’t take long. Performance is effected if you have over 300,000 files, however. Can you give me some more detail on your respective cases? Have there been any operating system updates/upgrades recently? Was there anything else that may have changed just prior to this syncing? Thanks!

Five years on and it is now happening to me. My MacOS has asked me about three times in the last two weeks for my acceptance because of "Need to change permissions for Dropbox folder". And then it resyncs apparently all files. Why is that? I only have one device currently. Why does it need to change permissions? Why so often?

We are having the same issue across different PCs and Macs. Dropbox Business account. We use smart sync but we are still over 300k files.
We have not been able to identify why yet, but on occasion the desktop app decides to re-sync all file and it takes upwards of 2 days with our significant amount of data. We do believe there is a correlation between deleting or moving folders, but have not yet confirmed. We have verified that no symlinks exist:
dir /AL /S C:\ | find "SYMLINK"
So the big question is, shouldn't the index identify modified files and prevent the desktop app from re-syncing everything?
Any other suggestions that would prevent the re-sync of all files would be appreciated OR if you know what specifically triggers the re-sync of all files, please let us know and we will try to avoid that scenario.

It's a few years ago now, but I found the issue on Mac was using the Maintenance scripts in CleanMyMac. Not an issue now.

After asking for and getting my system password (MacOS Monterey) Dropbox has been constantly "updating" files for about 24 hours.
What is going on here? Should I be concerned?

Hi, @hannah. I didn't pay much attention, because I trust my OS and Dropbox not to steer me wrong, but I don't *think* it was to update the app.
