A paid account shared with us but our Dropbox is over quota. Do we need to upgrade as well?

Hi Community,

A client shared a few files with us and now our Dropbox is over 700% in GB's.

Now there is a new client that wants to share a Dropbox account with us, this is not possible because we need to upgrade our account.

Are we doing something wrong? Do we really need a upgrade?

Kind regards,

Marc

  • Hi Marc18 ,

I am a Dropbox Product Manager for our sharing features.  Dropbox allows you to create shared links to files and folders that can be previewed by anyone without requiring available storage or even an account.

In your case, the sender can create a "Link for Viewing" to the content.  If the audience is set to "Anyone with Link", you won't even need to sign in to view.  And assuming they leave downloads enabled, you could even download a copy for later viewing and local editing.

If you need to collaborate (edit) on the content, or add it to your Dropbox as a shared folder so you have the latest changes synced, that is where you'll need to be signed in and it will count against your storage quota.

    Hope this helps.

Hey Marc18 - thanks for using Dropbox and happy Monday!

It sounds like you were invited to join a shared folder and not a Dropbox for Teams account.

If that's the case, you can have a look here for more information and here on how to tackle this.

    I hope this helps!
