What is the meaning of the systray icons on Windows?
Does someone know what this icon in systray is meaning:
Is there a list of icons and their meanings somewhere I'm too lazy to find?

Hi Jay and Rich,
thanks for the amazingly fast reply.
Unfortunately, the list available via the link Rich posted does not explain the icon I'm seeing and so your (Jay's) comment is making perfect sense.
I indeed have two monitors, ah wait, in fact three, counting the laptop screen in.
So, the icon most likely is meaning, that there is some notification to be looked at.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the info. Could you try temporarily disconnecting those monitors to see what the notification is, then you can mark it as read, and reconnect your monitors?

here we go:
after disconnecting the laptop from the docking station, thus removing two of the three monitors, (main screen now is the laptop screen) the icon was still displayed in the systray, but with a number in it, this time, which would imply, that there is a notification to be read (afaik).
(no unread notifications there, but that's another story, if the number indeed would stand for the presence of unread notifications)
After re-connecting the docking station, thus adding the other two monitors (main screen now is one of the two external monitors), the icon was still present in the systray, and it still had the number in it.
So, it seems, there is some relation to the presence of multiple monitors for the 'malformed' icon.
Now, that I know that the plain red dot, that I perceived as an error indicator, first place, is just an indicator for the presence of unread notifications (which are not there), I may leave it at that.
Thanks for your time and input on this.
