I found how to fix it. I'm on xubuntu 18.04. There is a new indicator plugin that you have to ask for the task bar. With the new indicator plugin, the dropbox icon works, but not with the default indicator plugin.

Hey Unic0, welcome to our forum!
What Linux distribution are you running?
Ordinarily, in this case, I would uninstall and reinstall, using an offline version of our app.
I would also make sure that you use a current stable version of our app. Betas sometimes have these little quirks.
Let me know when you can.
Thanks!

Hi ! Thank you for your quick answer, I am running on linux ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I am currently on a workstation and I don't have all the access, but I can still install the application via terminal command. But again after reinstallation, same probleme. I have been installing the current stable version 12.10.1

- Jane8 years agoDropbox StaffHmmmm... :thinking: Because the menu on the client is not loading at all, I'd recommend a fresh re-installation, since the issue seems related to an incomplete installation, hence visual elements appearing incorrectly.Depending on your OS and the package you used to perform the installation, you could have files in two different locations. I'm sending you instructions for both of the cases, so if some of the commands error out don't worry.Run the following commands in your terminal:dropbox stopdropbox status # Should report "not running"rm -rf ~/.dropbox-distrm -rf /var/lib/dropboxrm -rf ~/.dropbox*sudo apt-get remove nautilus-dropboxsudo apt-get remove dropboxrm /etc/apt/source.d/dropboxOnce you're done you have two options:#1. Install the Dropbox application with its graphical components using one of our packages. If you want to do that, download the correct package for your OS and architecture here:Open your downloads folder and double click on the package file to start the installer.When Dropbox has finished installing, please sign in and apply any Selective Sync settings you may have had prior to the reinstall and select the Dropbox folder location (if not in the default location) during the sign in process. Your account will take a few moments to reindex the files and sync any pending changes.#2. The second option is to run a headless version of Dropbox. This version will not have any of the menus or graphical components and can only be interacted with through the command line. To install this version do the following:If your machine is 32-bit:
cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86" | tar xzf -
If your machine is 64-bit:cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64" | tar xzf -
Next, run the Dropbox daemon from the newly created .dropbox-dist folder.~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd
Hope this is helpful to you! Please keep me updated on the results in your reply here.Thanks,JaneA- Unic08 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Hi ! Thank you for your answer but it didn't work.
I did :
dropbox stopdropbox status # Should report "not running"rm -rf ~/.dropbox-distrm -rf /var/lib/dropboxrm -rf ~/.dropbox*sudo apt-get remove nautilus-dropboxsudo apt-get remove dropboxrm /etc/apt/source.d/dropboxthenIf your machine is 64-bit:cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86_64" | tar xzf -Next, run the Dropbox daemon from the newly created .dropbox-dist folder.~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxdand I got the same display problem and this message in the terminal:~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd
[1:20:0719/114952.585140:ERROR:adm_helpers.cc(62)] Failed to query stereo recording.I don't know what to do :/
