How to unlink dropbox from my MAC
I recently acquired a new MacBook air and transferred data over from my old Mac. In the process, Dropbox came too...
Now, I can't save any files to my computer/desktop - they all have to be saved to dropbox; and at the same time, I can't put anything in my trash - everything I want to delete has to 'go' immediately.
It seems that dropbox has somehow taken control of my computer! I'd like to know how I can disconnect dropbox so that I can put files there when I want to, but only when I want to - not as a default.
Any help grateful received!.
Hi Walter - thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested, but no joy.
Eventually, I realised that somehow in transferring over data from my old Mac, Dropbox had got garbled and no matter what I tried, I couldn't get the correct pathway for saving files to the computer rather than the cloud, and that the trash was never going to work..
So - I just reset the Mac and started from scratch: I reinstalled Dropbox and now things seems to work OK.
A rather drastic solution, but it was clear this was the only way I was going to get it to work.
Thanks again,

Hi DavidW123, welcome to the Community and happy Monday!
It sounds like you accidentally enabled the Dropbox Backup feature on your new computer, probably upon installing the Dropbox desktop app.
If that's the case indeed, you should be able to disable it as outlined here.
Let me know if that helps, David.
