Get rid of preview pane in iPad app!
New iOS version today says I can now get rid of the Preview pane but HOW? Waited so long for this and now I can't work out how to do it!!

Hi Ian,
The feature is still rolling out. You'll see it soon as a X button in the top left of the preview pane.

Ok so I’m confused. So despite the app update telling me the facility is available, it isn’t?
how will it “roll out”? Do I have to wait for another app update?
thanks

Sorted! The cross only seems to be visible in portrait mode, although the change persists when you switch back to landscape.

Glad to hear your sorted this out Ian_A6!
Just a quick note on this is that this option is available for iOS's v.92.2 onwards and some of our other improvements include a better text file support since the previewing is improved and we also introduced text editing for more than 120 file extensions!
Thanks for using our iOS mobile app and have a great day ahead!

Is there a list of those extensions anywhere?
- Ross_S7 years agoDropbox StaffHey Rich,
You will see improved preview (using a monospace font and adding support for speed scrolling) and introducing text editing for the first time for these filetypes:
ADA, ADS, AHK, APPLESCRIPT, AS, ASM, AU3, BAS, BAT, BB, BMX, C, CFG, CLJ, CLJS, CLS, CMD, COB, COFFEE, CPP, CS, D, DBA, E, EFS, EGG, EGT, EGT, EL, ERB, FOR, FRM, FRX, FTH, GED, GM6, GMD, GMK, GML, GO, H, HPP, HS, HTA, I, IBI, ICI, IJS, INC, ITCL, JAVA, JS, JSFL, L, LGT, LISP, LUA, M, M4, ML, MRC, MSQR, N, NB, NCF, NUC, NUD, NUT, P, PAS, PHP, PIV, PL, PL, PLI, PM, POL, PRG, PRO, PS1, PS1XML, PSC1, PSD1, PSM1, PY, R, RB, RC, RDP, RED, REDS, RESX, RKT, SCALA, SCI, SCM, SCPT, SCPTD, SD7, SDL, SH, SKB, SKD, SKF, SKI, SKK, SKM, SKO, SKP, SKS, SKZ, SLN, SPIN, STK, SWG, SYJS, SYPY, TCL, VAP, VB, VBG, VBP, VBS, XPL, XPL, XQ, XSL, Y.
- that's probably not all 150 - but I can see these being all the new ones. I'm working on adding them to the "File types that preview as text" section here: https://www.dropbox.com/help/files-folders/file-types-that-preview . But they are also editable now.
Many thanks!

Are you still seeing the X only in portrait orientation? Which tab are you on (Home, Files, etc), and is there a file open in the right pane? If so, what type of file is it?
- Ian_A67 years agoCollaborator | Level 9
yes. open any document by clicking on the left-hand side list and the X should be visible on the right-hand side. If not just rotate to portrait mode. The state seems to persist until you fully close the app - when you re-open the app you have to do this again, which hopefully they will give an option in future (although given how long it took to get this done, I wouldn't hold your breath)

Thanks for the response Ian - I'm specifically asking whether the X disappears for you in landscape mode. If so, any other details would be appreciated so that we can investigate, as we haven't been able to reproduce this issue.
- Michael D.1056 years agoExplorer | Level 3This is broken again in the latest update for iOS 13. The X does not appear in portrait or landscape mode

Thanks for the report Michael D.105!
Would it be OK with you if I reached out via your Dropbox associated email address to have a further look into this?
Just for troubleshooting's sake, could you confirm you're on the last version of your iPad's OS and our mobile app's as well?
Thanks so much!
