Add Dropbox as a place in Office 365 for Mac OSX
Hello,
I'd like to add Dropbox as a place in Office 365 for Mac. I've found these instructions for windows (and here) but the corresponding options don't show up in the Mac version and, unfortu...

Please update as suggested - i don't understand why mac users pay the same price for less functionality. The inability to add Dropbox is more likely to drive me away from Microsoft products rather than to stay with them.

I have been ushing office 365 for a long time and I am very satisfied with my pc which runs on windows10, but recently I bought a MacBook pro for my personal office work. So I need office 365 for my work before in the app store ofic365 is not available but now it is available with less functionality. I bought it and installed microsoft office 365 download it from App Store. But I did not find the dropbox in it and I need it so how to enable dropbox in mac. If anyone know the solution then help.

I followed the directions in the link, and ensured that the Office integration was enabled throught the Admin settings of my Drobbox Business account. However, when I go to excel/word/powerpoint and choose the 'Save As' funciton and try to add dropbox as a place, it is still not listed as an option for Online Locations. I am restricted to Sharepoint and OneDrive.
Anyone experience this as well and have a solution?
- Jane6 years agoDropbox StaffHey Fixxxer, thanks for poking me here! Kindly note that if you have a Dropbox Basic or Plus account, you will not need a Microsoft account or Office license to edit your files. However, if you have a Dropbox Business account, you will need an enterprise Microsoft account with a license that allows editing in Office Online (Business, Business Essentials, Business Premium, ProPlus, E1, E3, E4, or E5).Additionally, if you're using a tablet larger than 10", Microsoft requires that you have an O365 license to use Office applications.Would you mind checking whether any of the above applies in what you’re currently experiencing? Please let me know of your findings in your next message here so as to follow-up with you as closely as possible. I’ll be awaiting your next reply!

And I am a stockholder. What am I supposed to do? Throw 5 years of accumulated files into the ocean like a rock? This is absolutely aggrevating!! Makes dropbox worthless.

I don't understand.... I was actively doing this on my MacBook Air. I unfortunately water damaged it a few days ago and had to buy a new MacBook. I have been going through and setting it up, and now my Dropbox wont integrate with Excel/Word etc. I've no idea why I could do it before, and why I can't now. This is really frustraing!
- jmal7 years agoNew member | Level 2Hello, Jane, Community Moderator! The link in your replies does not seem to work for me - but it implies that there IS in fact a way to add Dropbox as a place when working on a Mac. I would like to know how to do that, if it IS possible, so perhaps you could re-post the link? THANKS!

There is a way of doing it in Windows and online as Jane said but NOT on a Mac

Jane quite specifically writes "you may still Add Dropbox as a Place on Office 365 Online to save and view Office files directly in your Dropbox, if you’re working on a Mac. "
No matter. What plans exist to give Mac users the same functionality as Windows users have? Do we not pay the same fees?
- Jane7 years agoDropbox StaffHey Lurk, while we can’t share any details in regards to feature implementation, I can re-assure you that I’ve added your voice to the feedback gathered internally, since our dev team is actively tracking your interest for future improvements.I hope that this is helpful to you & thanks again for commenting on the Forum on the matter!

Need to get this up and running for Mac users PLEASE!!!
- Jon166 years agoExplorer | Level 4
This answer is confusing. the link goes back to the set of instructions that says you need a Mac?
- Jane6 years agoDropbox Staff
Hey Jon16, please accept my apologies for the tardy reply here; I can see that you've discussed that with Nate under this conversation, so I'm cross-linking the two threads for anyone else viewing this interaction in the future.
Other than that, please don't hesitate to get back in touch with us if you need further guidance & we'd happily work with you again. Take care until then!
- AlisonLawton6 years agoExplorer | Level 3Hiya, my daughter did this for me. She just downloaded the Dropbox app to my Mac and it’s now available for me to file and access things directly from within work and excel
- Sabanero5 years agoExplorer | Level 4
Hi, is it real? I could do the integration with the Ipad pro, but I can not with the Macbook Air.
How is that possible? And I did it before they werw separate OS.
- Daphne5 years agoDropbox Staff
Hi there Sabanero, thanks for joining us here!
You can still set Dropbox as a location within the mobile apps, regardless of the OS (Android or iOS).
You can find the steps here under the iPad section on how to unlink/relink your Dropbox account to the Office mobile apps.
However, for the desktop Office apps this is only an option for Windows users.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Is this a technical issue or is Microsft just making it difficult to try to entice users to their product (365)?

Any update? It is mind-boggling that DropBox is, in essence, not fully compatible with OSX. I had previously used Office 365 on a Dell PC and synced to my mobile devices. Now that I upgraded to an iMac desktop I have lost functionality and cannot use AutoSave for any Office work but instead have to save locally (and often) and then add the files to a preexisting DB folder? That's nuts.
- Jay5 years agoDropbox Staff
Hi Rover3d, as this is a restriction to the Office app itself, this is unrelated to Dropbox itself.
It you're interested in this feature, I'd recommend contacting Microsoft, as it is their product which no longer allows Dropbox to be added as a place.
Hope this helps to clarify matters!

I really miss this feature. Love Dropbox but this is very inconvenient when using the world's most popular office programs. Unbelievable that Dropbox cannot be added as a place in Microsoft 365. Please get this sorted as soon as possible!

This is not a solution.
The online version of Microsoft office lacks many of the functions of the desktop version.
To date Box, Egnyte, ShareFile, and OpenText Content Cloud all have integration solutions - why does Dropbox not have a solution? Why have you been left behind by you competitors?
What I find frustrating is that during the sales process I was told repeatedly by Dropbox that this functionality existed.
Please resolve this asap otherwise we will migrate all our users to another Mac friendly solution.
