Links created on the computer and pasted in Excel don't work

Hi

I have a spreadsheet that contains dropbox links.  I use Excel on the web in creating and editing. When my colleague edits the spreadsheet she will use the desktop version from the "open with..." menu.

When she attaches a dropbox link via the desktop version it doesn't create a valid link. I noticed that when that link is entered it has a prefix of "C:\Users\name...etc".

Is it because she is using the desktop version? Does it make more sense to use the web version when creating and attaching a new dropbox link?

Thanks

  • Hi DebraV

You are correct - the links are because you used the local computer. They will be specific to the device they were made on.

Unfortunately they wont work if you do the website either - the web versions have no 'link' to any other file. The web Excel has no capacity to do this

Hi DebraV! Since it sounds like your colleague is using the Dropbox Desktop App , you can advise them they can right click the file and select "Copy link" which will be the Dropbox Shared Link
