See what folders a user belongs to
As an admin, I want to be able to easily see what folders a specific user belongs to. I'd love to be a be able to go to the "Members" page, click on a user, and then see a list of all the folders they have access to. If I need to partially reduce a specific users folder access, I would currently have to click "Share" next to each folder and look through who the members were. And even then, if they belong to a folder I don't, I won't know they are on it. I'd also like to be able to change their permission and uninvite them to those folders from that same view. So, once I've opened the "Members" page, clicked on the user, and am looking at the folders they belong to, I'd want to be able to make edits from there.42KViews64likes75Comments
Preventing folders from being moved
Looking for a way, as admin to a shared folder which contains sub-folders, to keep other team members from accidentally moving those sub-folders. Part of it is education: novices do not grasp that by moving a folder to their desktop (for whatever reason) they are moving it out of DB and visibility to the rest of the team. This has occurred a few times, and as the team grows, it would be better if admin could lock a folder's POSITION. Probably would be a benefit to keep the folders from being renamed, but that is less likely to happen. Users should still be able to freely work with and move files as needed within the locked-position folders. Maybe there is a way to do this that I'm not aware of. Third party folder manager (those I reviewed are focused on encrypting, password protecting and/or hiding folders)? Any advice would be appreciated.23KViews51likes45Comments
Hide the members of a shared folder
Hi, My company uses Dropbox (free and company versions) to share files with external people of the company. We would like to know if it's possible to hide the name and the email address of the members of the folder to the other members. Designate multiple "owners" or "admins" of a shared folder
We would like the ability to designate multiple users as "admins" of a shared folder so more than one person is able to unshare and delete the folder when necessary. This could work by having multiple "owners" and/or having a Dropbox group designated as the owner. Why we need this: We use Dropbox for project work that is highly sensitive. Only team members working on the project have access to the shared folder on a "need to know" basis. I am a Dropbox Business user with a company of ONE. I work freelance with a boat load of other people who are also freelance. I am a part of several projects a year and need to share folders with a new group of 30-100 people every few weeks - all of which are outside my organization since, as I mentioned, we're all freelancing individuals. As the shared folder owner, I often need to message everyone who has access to that folder. It is extremely tedious to look up and type in the email of each individual person. Dear Forum Users, I am currently using a free Dropbox account for the purpose of testing. The objective of the overall exercise is to identify web-based solutions for the storage of and collaboration on documents of various standard file types (MS Office files, pdf files etc). I understand that in the notifications menu in Settings I can check the box for "Activity in shared folders (weekly digest)". This presumably means that once a week I get an email message describing what "happened" in shared folders (i.e., additions, revisions, deletions; additional users with access to the folder etc). My company is currently using Egnyte for sharing and jointly working on documents with clients. Egnyte offers the option of receiving updates of the type referred to above on a daily or even on a real-time basis. The real-time notifications have become an essential element of our workflows, so we would only consider switching to Dropbox if a paid Dropbox plan offered the same feature. I have noted that upon installing the desktop app it may be possible to receive notifications of the kind I am referring to although they would presumably not be sent / received via email. Unfortunately, relying on the use of the desktop app is not an option for us. The notifications about changes need to be sent by email and they need to work even if only the web-based version of Dropbox is used. If anyone knows whether any (and, if yes, which) paid Dropbox plan provides the exact functionality that I am looking for I would be grateful for a reply. From some brief research in the "help" section of the website, I note that the notification settings for Dropbox Paper are different / separate from the ones for the regular Dropbox. Ideally the answer would also describe which notifications (if any) are available for Dropbox Paper. From my research, I also note that the use of an additional third-party programme such as Growl or Zapier might make it possible to receive the kind of notifications that we are interested in. We would be happy to consider this option. The cost of additional app subscriptions is not a concern, but whatever we end up setting up has to absolutely, reliably work. Allow us to generate a report on who has edit/view access on shared folders
You are seemingly unable to generate a report that shows a simple access control list of who, within and organization, is allowed to view/change files in a folder? I understand that you can go to folders, one by one, and view (via 'modify') the currently assigned company users. But the ability to generate a simple csv file listing the directory name and all user names assigned to or allowed to read or read write is critical for both security and financial audit process. Given the Unix underpinnings for the product, this function exists as core to the OS, but sadly is missing from the system features.2.9KViews5likes9Comments
