The syncing on my headless Linux setup is quite slow.
I am running Dropbox under Arch Linux on a Hetzner server in a datacenter in Finland. Ocasionally I do data processing on the server because it's a fast machine. Sometimes uploads of these changes to Dropbox get stuck. Three days ago, the upload of a single 3.5 MB file took more than half an hour. There was almost no load on the machine, and it has a1 GBit/s connection. It was just sitting there, and this is not the first time: Speedtest to a server in Germany: What could be the reason? How do I find out more? I contacted support, but that was not helpful. It seems that there is no proper support for headless Linux installations with only text terminal access.
Some folders aren't syncing to Mac device, but they are syncing to Windows and Linux
Hi Everyone, I'm on M3 Mac, with the most recent Dropbox app. I noticed that specific shared folders will never show locally, in the file system, despite being marked for syncing. Tried both versions of Dropbox app, with and without the new File API. Reinstalled, redownloaded, redid everything I could think of - the result is always identical. The same folders will sync on Linux and Windows, so this looks like a Mac-only bug. I think I identified the condition, under which the sync fails - could someone please confirm or falsify this? - The folder must be shared - The folder must have multiple substrings in the name, connected with a "-" (minus) symbol (possibly other symbols can cause problems, too) - There must be more than one shared folder with the first substring being identical, e.g. "ABC-X1", "ABC-X2", "ABC-X3", all shared. With these conditions, either none, or just one of these three folders will show locally in Finder / in the local file system. Thanks!
Accessing online-only files from Linux terminal
I have a large Dropbox folder (Dropbox for Business) that on some of my computers is set to "online-only", but I want to make specific files available offline. I know I can do this via right clicks in the File Explorer window for individual files or folders. Also, when accessing files using the File Explorer (double clicking with the mouse), Dropbox notices and downloads files on the fly. However sometimes I work with files from a terminal (Windows Subsystem for Linux, WSL). In this case, accessing the files using terminal commands (cat, grep, editors like vim, etc.) do not result in files being downloaded. It is as if Dropbox does not know that files are being accessed. Seems like there is no connection with the WSL. Howeverthis other postshows users have the same problems in MacOS terminals. So this is not restricted to WSL or Windows. I am not requesting support or help in understanding this issue. I know it doesn't work. I am requesting this feature. It should be nice to be able to have either 1) a dropbox CLI command that would let us specify which file(s) or folder(s) we want to make available offline from a shell; 2) or have the WSL provide information to dropbox on files being accessed through the terminal. I would like to backup some files on a remote machine (Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS) to my Dropbox, avoiding creating a sync folder. Hence: using the command line (GUI not available) without creating a sync folder (I don't have enough space on my disk; files are now on an external HD connected to the remote machine) The Dropbox daemon is installed and updated to the latest version: Dropbox daemon version: 190.3.6262 Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04 however, it seems it does not have anything like upload. Moreover, I wonder if it is possible to backup files to the remote desktop from a machine that does not have the daemon either (such as an HPC) Thanks, Cesare[Solved, Ubuntu 22.04] Dropbox is always "Connecting..."
Hi, Dropbox tray icon says it is "Connecting..." forever. I cannot see the list of the latest modified files as it used to show or use the tray, actually. I am using Linux Ubuntu 22.04 (but it like that since the 19.10, I suppose) The currently installed version of Dropbox is 149.4.4568 I also don't have the "Early releases" enabled as you can see in the following screenshot. I also tried to remove `.dropbox` and `.dropbox-dist` manually to reinstall them cleanly. You can check the date and time it was reinstalled here.
