234 TopicsUbuntu 24.04 often shows deprecated warnings on the command line
I have used Dropbox for a good 6 years now on various Ubuntu Linux boxes, but I'm now having hiccups with Dropbox on Ubuntu 24.04.1 compared to a 20.04.6 setup on a different pc. The 20.04 pc shows the following: klojum@pc1:~$ dropbox status Up to date klojum@pc1:~$ dropbox version Dropbox daemon version: 211.4.6008 Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04 The 24.04 pc shows the following: klojum@pc2:~$ dropbox status /usr/bin/dropbox:613: DeprecationWarning: isSet() is deprecated, use is_set() instead if self.stop_event.isSet(): break Up to date klojum@pc2:~$ dropbox version Dropbox daemon version: 211.4.6008 Dropbox command-line interface version: 2019.02.14 So... Why is the freshly set up Ubuntu 24.04 pc using an older command-line interface version? I installed Dropbox identically from the installer file off the Dropbox website. Is this older version also responsible for the various Deprecation Warnings I'm getting on my screen? And BTW, 2019..?! Really? That's almost 6 years ago. I'm also getting "conflicted versions" of files again, which I haven't had for years. Where can I find the 'latest' version of Dropbox for Ubuntu Linux 24.04? Any insight on this is certainly welcome.152Views0likes3CommentsInstallation error on Ubuntu 24.10 (oracular)

I'm moving my dropbox account off a Mac and onto a linux machine. When I try and install dropbox, I get as far as entering my email/password and it asks me for the 6 digit code on the "authenticator". I have no authenticator app I have used with dropbox. Dropbox support are being less than helpful. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and how to get around it? I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 24.10 and have noticed that Dropbox never gets past starting. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and settingfs.inotify.max_user_watches to 1 million and it still does not work. The reason for settingfs.inotify.max_user_watches to 1 million was because this was the number that stopped this happening in 24.04. Has anyone else come across this issue and has found a resolution?376Views0likes6CommentsI can't install Dropbox on Fedora 40
Hello, I'm running Fedora 40 and cannot install Dropbox on my computer. After downloading the .rpm file from the Dropbox download page, it will run through the installation and daemon install process, give me a Dropbox icon in my apps but this will not activate anything after attempting to launch the program. I have no antivirus, firewall is not an issue and I have only one device. It used to work up until a short while ago but is now completely inaccessible. I've seen all the suggested possible solutions but none of them solves the issue. Is Dropbox even worth the trouble these days? It seems not but I don't give up easily. Fresh suggestions welcome. Thank you.3KViews0likes19CommentsHow can I move the Dropbox folder on Ubuntu 24.10 without a GUI?
In my new Ubuntu 24.10 with Dropbox installed from a .deb file downloaded from the official site, I can't manage its configuration. The GUI does not work here. I HAVE TO change the location of the ~Dropbox. It does not have any command to perform this change. Where is the configuration file with parameters about Dropbox's behavior? Any help will be so much appreciated. Thanks in advance.291Views1like2CommentsUbuntu 24.04 installation limbo
I tried installing Dropbox from deb (dpkg -i dropbox_2024.04.17_amd64.deb) to a relatively fresh Ubuntu 24.04 system. - The package installation succeeded, but dropbox start failed silently. - Then I tried via CLI "dropbox start", which pointed me to "dropbox start -i", which then failed in python, as the gi package was missing - To install gi via pip (as PyGObject), I had to first install libcairo2-dev andlibgirepository-1.0-dev via apt - then it worked That can't be the normal procedure. Am I missing something fundamental?253Views0likes1CommentDropbox Client for Linux on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS- icon not clickable.
Guys, I've noticed a bug on Dropbox Client on Ubuntu 23.10 and the same occurs on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS after a installed it from scratch on my machine. It's really a bug on the app on desktop. The problem is: the app on system tray doesnt open or show anything until the system is blocked to block screen and returns putting password. After that it works normally as it should. I recorded a short video showing the problem with you: https://youtu.be/6a4cvtZsRWo How can this issue be solved? Is this the right place to report it? God bless you all!9KViews6likes30CommentsUbuntu stuck in "Starting ..." and no Dropbox folder location is shown
Hi, my symptoms are very similar to what other posts have reported, after connecting a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 installation dropbox is stuck in status "starting ....". I raised the `fs.inotify.max_user_watches` as suggested in several threads, but frankly, my older laptop with Ubuntu 24.04 and far more files is happy at default 65536. However, when opening the graphical settings on the stuck machine, in the `Sync` tab there is no folder location configured, and clicking on "Move" does not open a selector to choose another location. The $HOME/Dropbox is formatted as ext4, not encrypted, and mounted upon startup. => What could prevent Dropbox from knowing the Dropbox location after installation ? How to manually set it as a workaround ? Yours, SteffenSolved458Views0likes5Comments
