Dropbox Shop
31 TopicsHow do YOU access Dropbox?
Hi Dropbox community - I'm a design researcher here at Dropbox. I'm curious about how you access Dropbox! How do you access Dropbox: the website, the desktop app (for mac/windows), and/or the mobile app (iOS, android)? For those you use, why do you use them? For those you don't, why not? Is there anything you wish you could do on one that you can't today? Why?9.5KViews6likes11CommentsOld versions of Documents replacing new versions
I have two laptops, Windows 8.1 (my main device) and Windows 10 which I rarely use. 8.1 had to go into a repair shop so i set about setting up dropbox on W10 with dropbox. It had some old files on it from the last synch several months back. When i checked on the synch - and luckily for me it was very slow - i found that W10 was uploading the old files to my dropbox account (instead of download everything from dropbox as I had expected it to do) which was then downloading the old files to my main 8.1 machine. I unlinked W10 pc very quickly from dropbox otherwise all my new files on the 8.1 would have been replaced with the old version from w10 and months of work lost. I never expected this to happen. It's very strange. Surely there must be a flaw with dropbox. Surely there should be some mechanism to check file properties and the synch should only upload/download documents that are not already on the server account. I now need to use both laptops, one in the office and one on the move so files need to be all synched properly on both laptops but how can i be sure old won't replace new?Solved6.5KViews0likes12CommentsDropbox desktop app is installed but won't open (windows 10)
Dropbox icon shows up in the system tray (in white) for a few seconds then disappears & it's not in the overflow area. Machine just came back from repair shop, where the tech unexpectedly installed lots of updates, reinstalled Chrome (I lost everything except passwords), and may have reinstalled Dropbox. I don't want to use the new Dropbox interface; I prefer to stay with access via File Explorer.Solved6.4KViews0likes14CommentsHow can I receive files directly into my Dropbox account?
Here is the situation: I am starting a marketplace where vendors can upload their digital art and sell it via my website. The issue is, the space on my web hosting plan will not come close to the needed space. I would like the vendors to be able to upload directly to a predetermained folder on my Dropbox Business account. I know something like this can be done, but I am having trouble figuring out how to do it. I am using OpenCart 3.0.2.0 as my shopping cart software. I am a freelancer and I use Dropbox as my main set of tools. It would be great to be able to create an invoice on Dropbox and send it to my client. All my invoices would be stored in one place and accessible on all my connected devices. It would create additional value of your service, to me and I believe to many others too. Maybe it could go hand in hand with Dropbox Shop?Solved4KViews2likes5CommentsDropbox Shop Preview/Thumbnail confusion
I'd seen previous discussion indicating that Shop creates a thumbnail of an item being sold. Either that was incorrect or settings have changed. I've been uploading images to sell and see the Product name (I'm just using the image file name, which I've customized), but there appears to be no automatic thumbnail generated. In the Shop directions, it notes: Under Preview, click Upload from device or Add from Dropbox. I do see the option for that under "Additional details" for a product. Is there anyway to automatically generate a Preview from the uploaded product, when it's a digital image? It would be ideal if there was a checkbox, for example, to "Create preview from product image." I tried the "Add from Dropbox" using the link provided to "Share" a product image, but Dropbox didn't recognize that for this purpose. I actually do have watermarked versions of all my images available for sale, but uploading those as a Preview image would double the storage use, unless I also first reduce the resolution and/or image size - and I don't know what resolution/size might be recommended for a preview/thumbnail. This is all for a local fund-raiser, so I'm trying to get away with using my Basic plan. (Uploading a second image for preview would put me over my storage limit.) Maximize your Dropbox account and work within the box. Dropbox transforms your folders into connected workspaces.Working within Dropbox allows you to keep your account tidy as well as navigate your virtual files. Dropbox is now my personal toolkit where I keep my files tidy and use features provided by Dropbox to make my virtual workspace functional. This saves me time daily. Find files faster You can spend less time searching for files and more time completing task with your Dropbox Basic Account. Think of your Dropbox folder as your own personal file library. You create the organization system for the files and folders, making locating files the least of your worries. Create a folder hierarchy For my Dropbox file library I create a folder hierarchy by giving every file a designated home. When giving every file a home, I group folders and subfolders into categories that are useful to me. The hierarchy is created when I add fewer folders at the top level, then add more towards the bottom. Depending on the files, I also use intelligent filters and visual browsing to quickly find the content I need to streamline my workflow. Naming conventions Establishing a naming convention that helps with grouping the folders has saved me time and energy when looking for files. I save several files for different parts of my workflow such as personal life, vacation life and family life, so using naming conventions is my saving grace. Some naming conventions that I’ve found helpful are listed below. Alphabetical order Chronological order (YYYY-MM-DD) Numerical order By group (i.e., client, location, file type) Adding tags Adding tags to files and folders is also another way to keep tabs on your work. Using tags allows you to quickly search for a document or file that is tagged. Some tags you can use include, #family, #work, #school. Creating tags is just another technique you can use to locate files and folders quickly. Here’s how: Click the checkbox to the left of the file or folder you want to tag. Type your tag in the # Add a tag box in the right-side panel. Press Return (Mac) or Enter (Windows). To search by tag, use the search bar at the top of your screen. You can also remove tags from a selected file or folder by clicking the X to the right of the tag. Dropbox features Working within Dropbox has allowed me to explore the additional features that Dropbox provides with the Basic Account. Some of these features include Dropbox Capture, Dropbox Replay and Dropbox Shop to name a few. DropBox Capture: The pandemic has pushed us to make the best out of our new reality through virtual communication, and Dropbox Capture adds to that convenience. Dropbox Capture allows you to get your message across with screenshots, GIFs, or simple videos recorded right on your screen. I’ve previously used Dropbox Capture to create video tutorials for my students and they found it fun and easy to follow. You can use Dropbox Capture to send video emails, tutorials, and much more. Dropbox Replay: Dropbox Replay on the other hand allows you to easily edit videos collaboratively. Do you sometimes need feedback from your best friend and get frustrated with trying to explain what part of the video you need help with? If you are a videographer, avid Tik Toker or create reels as a hobby, this Dropbox feature will make your video editing so much simpler. Dropbox Replay makes it easy to consolidate comments, take action on feedback, and finalize your video and audio projects in one place. And, when it's that easy, everyone loves it. Dropbox Shop: My best friend who makes T-shirts uses Dropbox Shop as a virtual store. She easily set up her online storefront with pictures directly from her Dropbox account. You can setup your first listing in 3 clicks, customize your online storefront, and sell directly to your customers with products that you have available in your Dropbox Account. Dropbox Password: Dropbox Passwords allows you to sync and store your passwords, generate new random passwords, and automatically capture and fill passwords on the web and in apps. You won't forget another password with this feature. Working within Dropbox has allowed me to explore creative ways to stay organized and virtually connected. Exploring Dropbox has opened up doors for my friends and has truly served as a way for me to stay on top of my personal life. Hey guys, I am starting a Shopify store where we require customers to upload files with their order - these files can be as big as 2 to 3gb so it's been difficult to find a Shopify app that will allow it because of the file size limits they all impose. We have an unlimited Dropbox business account, so my question is - is there a way to link our company Dropbox account with Shopify so that when customers complete their order they can upload directly into a personal Dropbox folder on our account? Any other ideas please just let me know! 🙂 Thanks in advance.1.6KViews0likes1CommentDropbox Shop keyword search for products. Is it possible?
While uploading products into Dropbox Shop, there was a handy Search field for shop owners. However, when I "View Storefront" to see it from a customer's perspective, I'm not seeing a search option there. Am I missing it? I tried this in Firefox and Google. It would be quite handy for customers to be able to search through products by keyword. The closest equivalent I could get was to use a browser's "Find in Page" feature. However, only a limited number of items are presented on the initial screen/page. A customer would have to be savvy enough to scroll down through the previews for the entire inventory (several hundred items, in my case) before the "Find in Page" could actually be fully effective. If a search feature is not available or anticipated, do you have suggestions for other ways to help customers find specific products?Solved1.6KViews1like2CommentsDropbox Shop discount codes
Hello All, I think an option to insert a discount code for %/$ off for items for sale is a must. When I launch a new product my subscribers get a subscriber-only discount and once a year I have a SuperSale. The platform I currently use allows this. Each item in the listing has the option to include a discount box to enter the % or $ amount with a unique code the customer is given to use, I limit my subscriber discount to a week to use it, and the discount box is clicked to show on that product only. I then manually go back in and remove the discount code for that product one week later. SuperSale I insert % off on one item and click the show discount box on all items. I'm not sure how to set up a poll, if you think this is a good idea please comment so developers of the new Dropbox Shop will know. Thanks for ylour ti me, Karen1.4KViews1like3Comments
