Sync dropbox across multiple locations/hard drives
I have a larger dropbox account than my primary hard drive. It would be great if dropbox could support virtual links to files outside of it's default location, without those files having to also be in the main dropbox folder. I am aware of shortcuts/aliases on windows/OSX, but those don't solve the problem if my primary drive has limited space.
This is one workaround, but native support through the Dropbox client would be ideal: http://bobmckay.com/software/split-dropbox-across-multiple-drives

+1 vote for this. I have a Dropbox Pro Account with 1TB of dropbox storage and I am wanting to spread this over a Microsoft Surface Book with a 500GB SSD and a 500GB SDHC but currently cant do this without unsatisfactory third party workarounds.

I also am limited on hard drive space with a couple of my computers, and would like to be able to have additional sync locations on multiple drives. If it were a Pro feature I think it would be a huge selling point..

....if the external drive is not connected, Dropbox should leave files intact until the drive is next available to be synced - this is going to be common place for people traveling with their laptop - the chances are they have put less commonly used files on the external drive anyhow and aren't towing along these drives when they travel.
A naming or color coding convention would be great too, to see at a glance which locations have alternate sync locations. I know my memory is not what it was and I can't always remember decisions I made 9 months earlier. I have been a dropbox user for 7-8 years and intend to continue so its important to me that dropbox has that trail - the current 'Selective Sync' function is buried about 5 clicks into the Preference Menu and its easy to forget especially when people are making location choices after getting a low memory warning which may only occur once or twice a year. I want a more visible reminder (in finder or explorer) that there are secondary folders and files being stored on dropbox (..... and hopefully soon....synced with secondary locations).

+1 for this feature request

I decided to try the method I mentioned above, and so far it seems to be working well.

+1 vote for an integrated Dropbox solution for this with it knowing that certain directories are 'local' and certain ones are 'external' would be perfect.

Having the ability to split a Dropbox between different drives would indeed help a lot of laptops users.

You'd think Dropbox would have an interest in supporting this, as the alternative is to use a second data synch service for the second mount point. Since I already subscribe to various others, I could just expand the storage on one of those instead of placing more data in Dropbox.

Konrad's links above are broken. I too would like to link external drive folders on Mac. I read the info about Junction Link for PC but....
