Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.
Hi
A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?

They didn't offer the solution unsolicited, I had to request it and the decision to apply the manual migration needed an approval of dropbox management apparently (which was quick). It was done about a month ago. No it's not possible in any way to copy documents from the old to the new environment, which is the main issue. What you can do of course is create a new doc in the new environment and then copy-past the content of the old into the new doc. But if you have hundreds of documents to migrate that doesn't seem very workable.

I am truly happy for your good fortune. Was this a recent occurence? Did you reach out to Dropbox or did they offer the migration to you unsolicited? Either way I hope the new functionality is serving you well. One more question with regard to your "old" paper docs. Understanding that you may have hundreds of documents, couldn't you just copy and paste each into a "new" paper doc and thereby have them better integrated into the new architecture?

Just for your information : Dropbox did come trough on this finally and offered a solution. They migrated my Paper account to the new API, and I can now manage Paper documents from my Dropbox folders like new users can.
The only drawback is that my existing Paper docs could not be migrated in any way, they are still available through links that I had to create. The lack of a mass migration solution is what is keeping Dropbox from rolling out the new API to all users still on the old system. So but if you are willing to put up with this inconvenience, don't hesitate to put in a request at Dropbox support to migrate your account manually.
Have a great year end 🙂

I fear that your assessment of the situation is spot on. While I am a small business Dropbox client and a paying customer, my subscription is a pittance compared to their enterprise accounts. Having said that, I am still paying for a service and I should have every reasonable expectation that I should get what I was told by Dropbox I should be getting.
Oh Well. At least we know we are not alone in our frustration.

Good to know I'm not the only one rooting for this Bob R.4 and slidedesignr .
I'm unfamiliar with Notion and Amplenote, will check them out.
Off topic : Coming back to your comment Bob R.4 , it is my impression (and from their communication I believe it to be true) that in the last 5 years or so, Dropbox has shifted its focus entirely to the B2B segment, catering mostly to the demands of business customers. The ratio I suppose is that if it's useful for business customers (who pay), eventually it will hold some added value as well for non-business customers (who are a lot less profitable). While I can understand this from a business-model point of view, it feels a bit frustrating as a loyal end user having used and promoted Dropbox with friends and colleagues, and having pushed it as the solution for the non-profit organization in which I am active.

I'm still waiting for this to happen too....but in the meantime...Notion and Amplenote have both been game changers for me.

Stijn Don't mistake my cynicism for lack of support. I'm behind you 100%. I would love to see Dropbox finally do the right thing for all their long time supporters instead of kicking us to the curb as they have done for so long. I will push for this long overdue functionally as long as it takes to get it.

The old API is still up supposedly until they migrate everyone over. It seems that they would want to shut it down eventually, though, so maybe it will still happen?
The page linked above says "expected by the end of 2022", which of course is most likely not happening (as it didn't in 2021 or 2020)...

I truly admire your persistence on this topic. If only to be happily proven wrong i would love to see progress but i fear this a lost cause and dropbox has long since moved on. Dropbox, if you’re listening, please ads your comments to this thread.
