What happens to my files when I cancel my subscription?
Hi, what will happen to my Files if I cancel my subscription? I have dropbox plus and the number of GB I keep there is more than the limit of the non-paying versions. There are also many important f...

Nothing happens to your files when your subscription expires. At most, if you're over your storage quota when your subscription expires you simply won't be able to sync your files, but they'll remain accessible through the Dropbox website. Your files are not deleted or removed from the account.
If you're no longer seeing your files, something else is the cause.

I have run out of Dropbox memory and want to deactivate it but am worried that I will lose my files if I do this. How can I ensure my files are safe on my local computer and deactivate Dropbox?

Hi SarahJEM, how are you today?
Please be aware that if your account is ever downgraded, Dropbox will not delete any of your files. If your Dropbox folder becomes over quota all that should happen is that syncing stops.
You might want to make sure, that the files you have on the app or any changes you've made, have been synced online.
If you have any questions, let me know.

Thanks for the reply. I have run out of memory and can see that the files that are on there are not deleted but want to be sure that for every file on Dropbox, it isn't held only on Dropbox and if I deactivate Dropbox, I won't los files on my computer

Hey SarahJEM, I hope you’re doing well.
If you delete your Dropbox account at some point, and you have the desktop app installed on your device, you should still be able to access your files via your local Dropbox folder. However, you’ll no longer be able to log in to your web account and there will be no syncing with your desktop app. For this reason, you'll need to make sure that all of your files have already synced to your desktop app, before deleting the account.
Also, please keep in mind that once you delete your account, it'll no longer be recoverable.
Besides that, you can also move your files from your local Dropbox folder to another location on your computer prior to the deletion, if you feel more comfortable this way.
Hope this helps!
