undo changed folder name
Hello,
the dropbox folder in finder on my macbook has a new name (dropbox (...)) since I tried the business version. Now I quitted the business version, but that name stays and I can't change it because the name "dropbox" would be already in use (but I can't see it anywhere). Is there anyone who knows the solution to this?
Thx!
Hey JayBee1711,
Thanks for following-up! Here are the steps:
#1. Unlink the Dropbox desktop application. Once you do, Dropbox will prompt you to sign in. Please don't sign in just yet and close the Dropbox application.
#2. Open your Terminal app (Located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
#3. Copy and paste the following line to display hidden files on your computer:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
Then press Enter.
#4. Go to where your "Dropbox (JaneACompany)" folder is located the delete the grayed out "Dropbox" folder shortcut from there:
- Open a Finder window.
- Navigate to the folder path where you have your "Dropbox (JaneACompany)" folder.
- Delete the grayed out "Dropbox" folder shortcut from there.#5. In Finder, rename your "Dropbox (JaneACompany)" folder to just "Dropbox".
#6. In the Terminal app, copy and paste the following line to re-hide hidden files in Finder:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
Then press Enter.
#7. Restart Dropbox from Applications and sign in to your account.
Hope this helps you resolve this issue. If you have further questions, please let me know in your reply, I'd be glad to follow-up!
Kind regards,
JaneA

Hey JayBee1711,
Thanks for reaching out on Community for that!
I'd be glad to work on that with you. Just a quick question, are you on a mac or on a Windows computer?
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Kind regards,
JaneA
