Is Dropbox down today?
It was working fine and now my homepage won't load. Every time I go to click into the file it keeps saying, "something is wrong" and not opening/
Not good when I have a dissertation due next week!!!
Thanks all for the reports and feedback. We should be back online now.
@Manuel - is your computer offline or Dropbox only? Is it accessible from another network? 3g/4g on your mobile device for instance?

I think it's safe to say this is a global problem...
And if anyone's worried about their stuff, I'd like to point out that external hard drives are only about £50 and a fireproof safe isn't much more. Here's the first search result for "beginner's guide to data backups".

I needed to finish editing photos for my client, and I told her that I have finished all the photos, but have some problems uploading it on dropbox. Of course, I did not finish it on time. But now when I have finally done editing - for the first time I experience problem on dropbox. Bad mojo.

seems like dropbox needs to put more money into creating a quick fix incase they go down. us paying subscribers require up-to-the-minute access but do we get that...no. and what about your quick fix...must not pay their technical support enough to get this back online asap.

Same here in East Los Angeles, CA, USA. I tried accessing dropbox first via my app on a tablet, then through the website. The app gave me an error message saying "this appears to be an automated attempt at logging in, please contact Dropbox support for assistance", but my other devices did not give me this error, but they did, however, give me "offline versions" of my synced documents. Something def. went wrong in the clouds today. I hope they fix this issue soon, otherwise Microsoft OneDrive is gonna get business from disgruntled Dropbox users quickly.

If you are logged in with an 'always on' device like a phone, you're logged in and it should be working. PCs and computers (both of mine have been rebooted) are not reestablishing connection via the desktop app. I receive a 500 and a 5xx error when attempting to log onto the site and received an 'appears to be an automated login' error on occasion. Perhaps a DDoS attack on Dropbox and they are working to resolve it? Can't be 100% on that but it's likely.
As for now, it is a good idea for those of you who have replied with such messages to PUT YOUR FILES ELSEWHERE NOT JUST ON DROPBOX! Dropbox helps sync your files to an online database, it should NOT be used as the SOLE LOCATION of your important files, that's backup 101 people. Once you regain access, I suggest going out to best buy for $50 and buying a big hard drive to keep your files on; I have my files on My PC's main drive, an external drive that is used just for dropbox which then syncs to dropbox.com. 2 physical locations and an infinite amount of virtual drives depending on how many devices I use to access dropbox (many; work and personal phone, work and personal laptop, main desktop, other devices while I'm at guests/client's houses, etc.)
Lessons learned I hope; dropbox is NOT perfect as no such site is. I can vouch for them being ultra reliable 99.% of the time AND for having excellent cross-platform support. What other services syncs files effortlessly between any browser, any phone and any OS? Hiccups happen, go out and enjoy the day and they'll be back up soon.

John G. You're absolutely right. But after recently acquiring the MS Office 365 software, I was introduced to another cloud service that can be accessed through any browser, through any app across multiple platforms (I own an iPhone 6 Plus) and it's called OneDrive. No, I am not an MS employee trying to push an advertisement in a Dropbox forum. I am just telling other users that there are other options out there, and I have been successful with this other option.
But to your point, external/portable hard drives, and even large flash drives which are now much more cost effective (example, PNY's 256gb flash drive for $80 on Amazon) are definitely something someone should always have for these "just in case". NEVER just have your stuff in the clouds. Hard drives may fail, flash drives may break, but Clouds can also blow away in the wind just as easy (sorry, too easy to ignore saying this :) ).
