I got an error "Sign in failed" when I tried logging in to my mobile

"Sign-in failed. Unknown error, please contact Dropbox customer support"

HI there I cannot sign into Dropbox on my android S6, I keep getting above error.
I have no issue when I try to sign into Dropbox from the Google chrome on my laptop its just on my phone.

I have reset my password and also removed the dropbox app and reinstalled it. Any suggestions?

    Hi there 3putts, thanks for checking in with us - let's see what we can find. 

    As a first step, could you check if you're on a Basic account by going to your Plan tab, as well as how many devices you have linked in your Security tab?

      Hi there - yes dropbox basic and I had 2 laptops and 2 of the same phone connected and one of the same phone still not yet completed downloading the app. I have deleted all the phones.

    Try going directly to Dropbox.com on a browser(pref Chrome). You may be able to it from there.

      Thanks for checking that out for me, 3putts

      Since you're on a Basic account, you have a three device limit. This means that if you'd like to link a new one, you must unlink enough devices down to atleast two before trying to sign in to another one. You can find more info about this here.

      As ErinSimon827 also mentions though, if you want to navigate through your Dropbox account on your mobile device, you can use the website from your mobile's browser.

      Hey Sue6, thanks for nudging us on this thread, and sorry to hear that you're also having trouble with this error message. 

       

      Just to make sure that we cover as much initial troubleshooting ground as possible, could you:

      • Send me a screenshot (without any personal info) of the error message?
      • Check if you're on a Basic account by going to your Plan tab?

    Galaxy S4, sign-in doesn't work with correct password (even after reseting it), emailed sign-in link, or connecting my google account (which was something I didn't want to do). Says uknown error, contact dropbox support. If I do the incorrect password it tells me so.  Can't find any info. I can sign in on other devices, but I need to be able to sign in on my phone.

      After updating to the newest version of Dropbox Android app, I can no longer sign in to Dropbox on my Samsung tablet. I get the following error:

       

      Sign-in failed, unknown error, please contact customer support.

       

      I have unlinked all devices except one. Any help is appreciated!

        Hey there LMDLMD, I hope you're having a good day so far!

         

        So I can have a better idea of the issue that you're having, please let me know the following:

        • Which version of the app do you have installed? eg. 184.2.8
        • What OS version is your device running?
        • Do you get the same error when signing into your account via the website?

        Let me know and we'll take it from there!

      I'm getting a "sign-in failed" on Android, with "Unknown error, please contact Dropbox customer support."


      Interestingly, every time I do it, I get an e-mail sent to me saying that Dropbox has been accessed by a new Android device, is this you? As if I had signed in successfully.

    Ciao,

    I am have a basic Dropbox account.

    This morning I changed the pricipal Gooogle account in my android mobile (HTC U ULTRA), the dropobox app requested to login, but after it raises an error, see  https://www.dropbox.com/s/vjj62apjqecwzhw/ErrrorMessage.jpeg?dl=0

     

    Then as you suggested in other post I removed 2 devices configured in my dropbox account, now I have only 1

    Hello,

    until recently i had used dropbox on my mobile phone to synchronize pictures. Now I noticed that the app was no longer connected and I had to log in again. Whenever I try to do this I get the error message "Error logging in. Unknown error. Please contact the dropbox support." Username and password are correct. Reinstalling the app didn't help either. In the account I also deleted the device link, so it shouldn't be because of the device limit.
    Which other possibilities could be the cause of the error?

      I've just moved your post here as it seems that you're having the same issue as the OP.

       

      Since you've already checked that you're not over the 3 device limit for Basic plans, I'd suggest checking that you're running the latest versions of your device's OS and the mobile app.

        Do you perhaps have a Basic account with more than 3 devices currently connected to your account?

         

        If you're not sure, you can check your plan from here and you can see your connected devices from here

         

        Should your account be Basic and have 3 or more devices connected, you would need to unlink enough devices until only two are remaining so that you can link the new mobile app as the 3rd device.

    I am always getting an error on my android htc whenever i try to login to the dropbox app. What could be the issue and how do i work around it?

      What version of Android are you running, and does it meet the minimum requirements according to this page?

       

      Could you try to uninstall the app, reboot the device, and reinstall it again to see if this helps?

        I am running on android 8 on a HTC..I have done all the steps you mentioned but I still cant access dropbox on the android app. I am however able to access the account over web

    Obviously you should log in to the official website, and then check the specific setting details, you will understand where the problem is.
