Sharing a folder with view only and with a password.

Hello,  i am testing professional trial for my online course and share materials and ive have had some issues with sharing a folder.

I can make a link and send it that allows members to see the materials but not to download it. and link is protected with password. so far so good.

but:

-they still have a permission to download files.

-they need to make an account to dropbox to see the materias.

-they doesent need to sing in with password that i created. They just come in when they get the link and sign in their dropbox acco.

im askin are these problems just because im still on a professional-trial version or something else?

is professional version good for sharing online course to >100 customers?

Hi Shareware, welcome to our Community!

Provided you're using the right steps to create a shared folder, and set its permissions, then none of the things you mentioned should be happening.

The first thing we need to do, is identify if you're sending a "can view" or "can edit" shared link.

Can you check this Help Center article, and confirm that you're using the "how to create and share a Dropbox link with view-only access" steps? Once that is done, you can use the steps mentioned here, in order to restrict access to said link by using a password and disabling downloads.

As for your latest point: the users would sign into their accounts using their own, unique password, not the one you created. The password you created should only be used when they access the shared link.

    I hope this clarifies!

Thanks for the explanations, but the problem is that it simply does not work.

The set password for reading is not checked.

What, exactly, doesn't work? What is it that you're trying to accomplish and what steps have you taken. Please be specific.

As posted by OP. You now need to got to the folder, select "Share", then set various options. In order to share it you have to "create a link". You can then customize this link to have a password, prevent downloads, etc. The password is set, but whoever has the link can view the folder anyway even without password. You can then delete the link, then the old link will lead to user to a login/create account screen, after which again the password is not checked and the folder can be viewed.
