Why is the Dropbox Desktop App no longer available?
The dropbox desktop app had such a great user interface and was a good workflow for our team.. unfortunately as of 17 Jan 2022, it has been dropped.. I wonder why this change was made, and i'm just hoping the application is being improved instead of being killed.
What we enjoyed out of the desktop app was the ability to pin specific files to the main dropbox for quick access, which everyone was able to identify quickly. with the Finder app, it was hard to see pinned items, and with the website, its a redundant process – requiring lots of extra steps – having to open up the website to identify the folder before pinning them. the website does not give as much visual cues as the desktop app previously had.
Please, dropbox, #bringitback!
- Hey people, how are you all doing?
First of all, thanks a lot for your thoughts and comments. They surely help a lot to understand what you want on your end.
Keep in mind that Dropbox remains focused on helping our customers stay organized and work more efficiently. With this focus, we’re simplifying your desktop experience with improvements to Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, and the taskbar/menu bar.
Support for the desktop window ends on January 17, 2022.
Don’t worry—we're continuing to support a great desktop app experience for you and your content is still safe with us.
Save, view, share, and access all your files with the Dropbox folder in Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, the taskbar/menu bar, on dropbox.com, and with the latest iOS and Android apps.
If you need me, give me a shout.

Seems like it's time to find another service. Hate to do it as I've used Dropbox practically since it started up, but the online version sucks and I don't always have internet (travel a lot) so it seems Dropbox will no longer work for me or my business. Too bad they screwed up a good thing!

How will it no longer work for you? The Dropbox application that handles syncing to your computer still exists and always has. It's just one feature of the app that was removed (the built-in file manager). Other than that, the app is the same as you've been using since it started up.

Please bring back the desktop app; it is much better than the website page as it has a more defined interphase and has a quicker/more streamlined work flow for dragging files across from a other desktop monitors and vice versa.
Please, Dropbox, #bringitback! it was great.

I tottaly agree! It was super convenient, why did you close it?! I changed from Google Disc to Dropbox because dropbox had convenient app for MacBook... I'm totally disappointed...

I want the desktop app back. I loved that in the app I could open my files to Illustrator/Photoshop... now projects are taking me twice as long because I have to find the folder, nothing is in the same order, it takes longer to open it in a program. This was a horrible move on their part and has me considering something else. My work flow for today has been horrendous trying to navigate folders. I really hope they rework the desktop app and bring it back. The Finder on Mac process is not working for me, and is costing me time, which is impact my end clients. Fix it Dropbox.

i ONE THOUSAND percent feel your pain. I spend most of my day in Illustrator , and the rest working in the Desktop App where I create files/projects for my team and clients.
The last week has been ABSOLUTE TRASH. I have wasted so many hours searching for where my stuff is.. and how can I collab with clients in a concise/beautiful manner we are used to and pay a lot for.
I've been spending the last 4 hours this evening moving all of my files over to different cloud options that I'm testing ... because after years of loyalty and thousands of dollars, Im breaking up with Dropbox.
I feel silly to be this mad about a freaking app, but y'all have killed my workflow and really screwed things up.
Currently testing Box, JumpShare, Sync & giving Google Drive one more shot too.

I AGREE!!! THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!! The original app was so helpful and now everything is opening up in FINDER and its a MESS!

Yes bring it back! I need the 'Do not sync to Dropbox' functionality. That thing is IMPORTANT!

Can you give a clear answer please; Will the Desktop App be reinstated to the original interphase.

SO inconvenient. I've been fielding this question from within my team since yesterday.
We use the app for starring, pinning, commenting on specific images or files with caption notes, @ each other to get quick responses.
we're all working from home again during the omicron spike (we are in healthcare, supporting major hospitals and aged care homes) so the loss of functionality is a major disruption, at the worst possible time.
I am aware the move was made because some users found the dual existence of program files/finder AND the app to be too confusing, so is there perhaps a way to bring back the app as an optional item (like, in preferences 'show the app' or 'don't show the app' ) so it's not a default for those who get confused easily but its available for those end users who DON'T find it confusing and actually require it (and require the extra functionality that made dropbox worth paying for) ??

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this already, but you could try Slapdash (https://slapdash.com) to pin your favourite files from across Dropbox using Slapdash's 'Spaces' feature, as a replacement for the Dropbox desktop app's pin functionality

This is a great suggestion....but....I don't want to pay for another subscription just to get the same benefits I was already receiving from Dropbox. I have a business account, for a law firm. It has been an absolute pain in the ass to navigate through files through the finder on Mac. Opening and working through the browser is also inefficient and doesn't provide the same necessities as the desktop client did. It seems like Dropbox is randomly rolling features in and out without customer feedback. The best SaaS companies are the ones that ask for feedback, and LISTEN to their customer base.
Oh look guys! Walter is still here....except he's not responding to any of the valid concerns here.
I'm currently in the search for a cloud storage option that provides a desktop app similar to the dropbox client, and has many of the same functions as Dropbox. I checked out Box but I'm not crazy about their a la carte price model for getting all the functions, rather than bundling them. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears!

I can't open my desktop app.
Clicking on the Dropbox icon opens the local Dropbox folder, rather than the app.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app to no avail.
My only access to preferences, settings, etc is by clicking on the active Dropbox icon in the lower right tray. But still no access to the app itself.
I followed the thread of another user having the same trouble. Didn't resolve for him either. That thread ended by transferring discussion over to email, so no posted remedy.
I'm using Windows 10.
Any help in gaining access to my app would be appreciated!
