Like EdenWheeler mentioned above, there's no way at all to restore files that have been permanently deleted from a Dropbox account.

Dropbox Rewind and regular file restorations can only occur for files/folders that haven't been permanently deleted and which are within the file recovery window of each user.

    • Verify the Dropbox Trash: A file is originally transferred to the Trash folder when it is deleted from Dropbox. Start by going to the "Files" area of the Dropbox website or Dropbox app on your device, then searching for the "Trash" or "Deleted Files" folder. To see if your file is there, look through it. If you discover it, you can put it back where it belongs.
    • Use the Events page on Dropbox: Every action involving a file, including deletions, is recorded by Dropbox. By logging into your Dropbox account on the website, you can reach the Events page. From there, you may search for the file you unintentionally destroyed and filter the events to only see deletions. Whether the file is visible in the events log

Unfortunately, it is not possible to restore permanently deleted files on Dropbox. Once files are permanently deleted, they are removed from Dropbox servers and cannot be recovered. Dropbox keeps deleted files for a limited time in case you need to restore them, but after that period, they are gone forever. To avoid permanent deletion, it's recommended to regularly back up your files or use version history and file recovery options provided by Dropbox.

Could they use Dropbox Rewind to restore their file from an earlier time?
