The dropbox desktop app had such a great user interface and was a good workflow for our team.. unfortunately as of 17 Jan 2022, it has been dropped.. I wonder why this change was made, and i'm just hoping the application is being improved instead of being killed. What we enjoyed out of the desktop app was the ability to pin specific files to the main dropbox for quick access, which everyone was able to identify quickly. with the Finder app, it was hard to see pinned items, and with the website, its a redundant process – requiring lots of extra steps – having to open up the website to identify the folder before pinning them. the website does not give as much visual cues as the desktop app previously had. Please, dropbox, #bringitback!Solved20KViews25likes84CommentsFiles open very slow
recently i have had issues with dropbox (db) opening files extemely slow. i figured it was my computer so i bought/installed a new 1tb solid state drive, reformatted, re-installed everything.. and it still opened slow, like 7-10 seconds per file (yes, can drive a man nuts). i decided to do a little troubleshooting and copied a file to my desktop to see if it still opened slow and BOOM.. flew open. so it looks like its dropbox that is having the issue. my dropbox folder is located on my c:. we live in the woods and have satellite for internet (not sure if that matters). windows 10, and brand new dell precision work station. windows defender is disabled (read that was an issue also). the files i mostly use are "autocad" files (.dwg) thanks for the help!Solved14KViews1like27CommentsHow To Remove The /DropBox from the path In C Drive

Within my Dropbox folder, I have sub-folders with different Windows ACL permissions. Up until recently, whenever Dropbox synced a file it inherited its folder permissions perfectly. Now it no longer does. It overrides the folder permissions and sets all file permissions to something completely different - Full Control for admins and Read/Read & Execute for users. Is there any way to get back to the old days - when Dropbox respected the inheritance of ACL permissions to all files in each folder?12KViews1like105CommentsDropbox constantly creating desktop.ini files - how do disable this?
As per the title; the latest dropbox is now generating desktop.ini files pretty much as soon as they're deleted (they were recreated only on dropbox starts earlier, so a delete upon startup was all I needed). This is detrimental for me; how can I disable this behaviour? They are pretty meaningless files, too, this is all in it: ■[ . S h e l l C l a s s I n f o ] I c o n R e s o u r c e = C : \ P r o g r a m F i l e s ( x 8 6 ) \ D r o p b o x \ C l i e n t \ D r o p b o x . e x e , - 2 3 0 1 Edit: -for anyone stumbling onto this one- There is no solution, dropbox support is unable to reproduce the issue (using windows built-in file manager does not show the file!). There's also no promise of any solution, ever. This is what you get you bloody miserable user for paying for this product. Best Option: use another product.Solved10KViews7likes35CommentsImpossible to delete The old Dropbox main folder Windows 10

Hi, Something new happen recently when I was deleting some files. When I delete something from my Dropbox, I get a notice that they're moving the files to the Recycle Bin and then another prompt that asks me if I want to remove those files from all the devices connected to the dropbox. The new thing that happen is the last prompt now contains what appears to be Chinese characters. (Picture attached) I've reinstalled the Dropbox on both devices connected and that hasn't fixed the issue. Does anybody know what this is or how do I fix this? I haven't seen it when using any other program. The characters doesn't appear on the "moving files to the recycle bin" prompt but only on the prompt that comes after which is asking if I want to remove the files from the other connected devices. Also the Chinese characters aren't always in the same location. Sometimes they're beside the Dropbox at the top of the prompt and sometimes they on the "Delete Everywhere" button.Solved7.6KViews1like35CommentsI cannot rename a file in the Dropbox folder
Good Morning Everyone hope someone help me. We use the dropbox from desktop file. If I tried to re-name the file in the desktop, it doesn't let me change longer ( It used to be okay). However, if I re-named the file in the Dropbox Website, it let me change the name longer. ( it automatically changed the name in my desktop file too) Then, I cannot open the file from the desktop until I rename to shorter or copy to additional file to rename shorter. I want to rename the file in the desktop and open it without rename to shorter. Can anyone help me to fix the issue?6KViews3likes7CommentsWill Dropbox delete my local files?
Dropbox scares me. I just want to have a safe a place to keep my files, and access them from two or three different devices. But sometimes, instead of just saving the file, Dropbox saves it as a separate file. Then I've got two versions of the same file. Over a period of weeks or months, I end up with six or ten versions of the same file. Plus, sometimes my PC or laptop loses its connection, and the device saves a local version. Now I've got a dozen versions, and I'm afraid to work on any of them, because if I choose the wrong one and save it, I could lose hours of previous work. So I have to go through them all, try to figure out which one is the latest one and which one has the revisions I want. Once I find the latest version, I would like to get rid of all the other versions so I don't have to keep doing this. That's when it scares me. When I try to delete one, a box pops up, asking me if I'm sure I want to delete all versions on all my devices. Christ no, that's the last thing I want! But that's the only option it offers. That, or cancel. So I cancel. I'm guessing this function is part of Smart Sync, so I have tried to turn off Smart Sync. There doesn't appear to be any way to do it. But in "settings" there's an option to turn off System Extensions, which, it says, enables Smart Sync. I turned that off. My PC just spent the last half hour doing something with my Dropbox files, but I can't tell what. Frankly, I have no idea what the effect of turning off System Extensions might be. The files seem to be accessible. Have I achieved my goal? Can I now use Dropbox without the threat of it changing or deleting my local files?Solved5.7KViews3likes5CommentsA certain icon overlay doesn't work in Windows
I have been working to resolve issues regarding icon overlays. After reading a lot of posts on this forum, I figured out how to edit my registry and move Dropbox overlays to the top of the list, giving them priority. This worked - with one odd exception. The icon for mixed state files won't display no matter what I do. According to this link, that should be DropboxExt09. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Shell_Icon_Overlay_Identifiers) I realize this is a minor issue. But having spent a lot of time on the general issue, I am hoping someone can help me fix this one quirk. Thanks ...Solved5.6KViews1like10Comments
