Sync
221 TopicsAdd .dropboxignore directory to exclude folders without using selective sync
Please please please can you add a feature that allows folders to be excluded from the Dropbox account (on windows and mac). For sure I'm not the first person to request this, but I'm yet to find a good explanation of why it's not there. A quick google search reveals loads of people also looking for the same feature. I really like the workflow I have with dropbox, but it's getting to the point where I might switch providers in order to allow better selective sync. I've seen hackish solutions using selective sync, but it would be great if this could be done in one of the following ways: - global pattern matching eg "node_modules" - a marker file in the directory like .dropboxignore - a simple right click context menu "Ignore this folder" Other than that, keep up the good work. Cheers. Tom608KViews1382likes1009CommentsUnzip/zip a file inside Dropbox
Uploading the zipped file to dropbox and unzipping it inside would save a lot of time and traffic for users. Some of the web services already exist for that (like this one http://www.quora.com/Is-there-a-way-to-decompress-a-zip-file-inside-Dropbox), but as they use their own server capacities, they cost money. Unzipping inside the dropbox may be an additional feature inside the dropbox itself. I would even pay for that a little xtra.137KViews152likes44CommentsSync dropbox across multiple locations/hard drives
I have a larger dropbox account than my primary hard drive. It would be great if dropbox could support virtual links to files outside of it's default location, without those files having to also be in the main dropbox folder. I am aware of shortcuts/aliases on windows/OSX, but those don't solve the problem if my primary drive has limited space. This is one workaround, but native support through the Dropbox client would be ideal: http://bobmckay.com/software/split-dropbox-across-multiple-drives63KViews93likes109CommentsCan we have the Command Line Interface for Windows/Mac?
Even though, there is a command line interface on linux (which has start, stop and, soon, pause options), there seems to be no equivalent feature on windows nor on mac. This feature should be easily transferable. I see no technical reasons why this cannot be possible (especially to mac), is there any?41KViews86likes43CommentsWindows 10 use a column in File Explorer (file property) for icons instead of overlay
Dropbox uses icon file overlay to show file sync status in File Explorer in Windows 10. Windows has a limit of just 15 overlay icons and different applications pushother appliations out of the top 15 slots - this is often why some Windows users have missing overlay. OneDrive has moved to using a separate column in File Explorer as shown in the following example. This also means you can order by status. It would be great if Dropbox could adopt a similar solution. One of the things that would really be useful to me was if I could create 2 keyboard shortcuts for toggling Smart Sync on my Mac. Right now, to bring files locally or move them online only, you have to select the files, right click, and then go to Smart Sync > Local / Online Only. This is not a hard thing to do clearly, but I find myself frequently toggling this, and it would be so much easier if I could just select a group of files and enter a shortcut to bring those files locally or put them online only. I've followed instructions online to create custom shortcuts before, but I don't know how to do it for something like this, if it is even possible. Thank you in advance!16KViews41likes17CommentsPlease allow pairing of more than two accounts.
Please allow pairing of more than two accounts. As a contractor, I am a member of a company's business account, a team member of another company, and have my personal account. It is frustrating to only be able to pair two of them, so that when I need to access the third, I have to completely sign out of the others and sign in fresh for the third.17KViews40likes84Comments"only online mode" from the command line
Hello! My program writes data to a file (the file is located in the Dropbox folder), when the program has completed its work, I want the resulting files to become "online only" automatically. Now I have to manually set this option, maybe there is a way to call the option "only online mode" for the file from the command line? Or what are the options in my case? The fact is that my program writes large files, and I cannot store them locally.6KViews21likes10CommentsA way to uncheck all folders in the Selective Sync settings
I have many folders and files in my main computer's dropbox. I have a laptop with a small SSD so I can't allocate much space for DB. I need to use Selective Sync to pick which folders. By default all folders are checked. It would be very helpful to have a "uncheck all" checkbox in the dialog box, so I only have to check the one folder I want to share. I also want to have a way NOT to sync the files in my root folder. Using Mac OS 10.925KViews19likes39CommentsCan we offline an entire folder of files through the mobile app?
Hi, Is it possible now, or in the near future to mark an entire folder + subfolders as favorite, and so synching new added files too ? I want to make my image portfolio offline accessible on my Apple devices, but marking them one by one takes me forever... Also when I add a new subfolder with images, I always have to mark them too one by one... on BOTH my iPad and iPhone. Is there a way or will there be in the furure? thanks Koen11KViews18likes19Comments
