Dropbox details are: Size 39.2GB Size on disk 48.6GB If I set it to "Make online only" will I end up with more disk space and, if so, when? I´m having an issue where in Windows 11 when scrolling up/down in the Onedrive folder, Dropbox task appears in Task Manager showing "Com surrogate (32bit)" and disappears when I stop scrolling. It also takes a fair bit of CPU. Hi, I am using dropbox an various devices (Windows, Mac, iOS, iPadOS and Android). I prefer to keep all contents offline available, so I activated these options. Right now, there is around 16 GB of data kept in my dropbox space. I rarely delete files. In most cases, existing files are updated or some new files are added. There's no problem on Windows, Mac, and Apple mobile devices. On iPhone and iPad, the app needs about 17,x GB memory, that sounds okay. When updating or changing files, the memory consumption on iPhone and iPad changes as expected, depending on the changed files. However, this isn't the case an Android devices. Here, the memory consumption keeps growing and growing. I made a test, at the same time I deleted and re-installed the apps both an Apple and Android devices from scratch. Downloaded all files again and made them available offline. After some weeks, memory consumption on the Apple devices is rather constant and within an expected range, still around 17.x GB. While on my Android tablet, the app uses 28 GB. And on my Android phone, it needs 22 GB. Is this a known issue? Why does the Dropbox Android App need so much more memory, and why is it growing and growing? Is there a way to have my files sync on my desktop computers, without consuming almost 1 GB of memory? I don't care about the other features of the desktop app. I dislike how prevalent it is to write a webapp and wrap it using Electron. This basically gets your computer to run a chromium web browser, just to run your app. I'm not sure that's what Dropbox did, but the memory usage is similarly weighty as the Slack and Discord apps are. Hello all, Dropbox user since decades back. I'm on Mac Silicon (M1 laptop, 8GB RAM). Dropbox takes up ≈5GB out of my 8. Obviously a problem, and googling around reveals that this has plagued Dropbox since at least 2021. I know there are thousands of users suffering from this, and I also know I can restart Dropbox every morning to keep it in check - but I was wondering if anyone actually found a longterm solution? Data: MacOS 11.6 8GB RAM Dropbox version 208.4.5824 Selective Sync on (Only sync about half of my folders) Amount of files in Dropbox: around 43'000 files&folders Most folders "online only" (to save HDD space) Dropbox Badge: off Symptom: RAM-usage after a Dropbox restart: ≈600MB. Please extend access and storage of drop box and capture. I'm being harrassed for having new concepts and disclosure of global terrorisms. Dropbox has most of evidences and write ups. The concepts are original and they are after those. I am able to re write things but having my files secured and accessible will make it quicker to implement. Hoping for your consideration. Hi Dropbox is running considerably high RAM, and has done for some time. By looking at the forum it seems to be a constant problem - what can I do to reduce this? It is by far the most RAM intensive application i use. I'm using : Macbook Pro M1 - 16GB RAM Sonoma 14.5 Dropbox App v202.4.5551 7% of Dropbox allocation (25TB) used 140,907,808,938 bytes (140.52 GB on disk) for 70,683 items Generally sync's a handful of files per day, maybe a few hundred MB unless something is out of the ordinary. Most of the data is cloud storage (selective sync). DB typically runs at over 500mb of Memory and about the same for VM Compressed memory (after reboot and general usage). When monitoring all app usage with browser (multiple windows and tabs) DB is close to double the RAM usage. What can be done to fix/improve this? I have a new computer that came with dropbox installed on it and I had never used it. Recent twice a day (once at 1:08pm and once at 1:08am) I get files in the locationin C:\Program files(x86)\Dropbox\Temp These take up about 900MB. I have deleted them and they return each day. I have uninstalled and reinstalled dropbox and the files continue to be made. I only have a 256GB hard drive so this causes my C: drive to fill up rather quickly. As you can see in the screenshot, the Dropbox iOS app is taking up 1.37GB of space in app storage alone. But I have no offline files. Things I've done: Made sure that I have ZERO files marked as "Make available offline". So no files are being explicitly stored. Explored the settings menu deeply. No where can I find a way to clear the local cache or set a limit. Searched this forum and the best solution I found, which I know will work, is to completely the delete the app, re-install it, and log in again. But that's such a hack. Here's a screenshot where the app even says it has no cached files... What's going on? What's in this mysterious 1.37GB of stored data? Also, is deleting the app completely and re-installing it still the only option to resolve this? If that's still my only option this situation is a bit absurd. Is there local app data just constantly growing no matter what? Also for reference I use Camera Uploads regularly and I'm pretty I had to do the same thing about a year ago to clear up space. Macbook Pro running Sonoma 14.4.1 - Dropbox 197.4.7629 First off, Lightroom was struggling to "see" files being stored online-only, which Dropbox had aggressively moved online without my awareness. Hoping to deal with this I made a bunch of folders offline accessible, and then updated to File Provider. Since then it's been 2-3 days of absolute annoyance and lost productivity. After a massive indexing, Dropbox got hung up "Updating" about 150 files. Hoping to stop this, I restarted the software. It started indexing again and left it alone. I came back to my hard drive nearly full and syncing paused due to that full hard drive. Restarted Dropbox, same issue. At this point, chatted with Dropbox and was told to let it index and if it got stuck again, I'd need to Selective Sync. Left it overnight, in the morning it was still indexing, 700 mb of hard drive space. Sync suspended due to no space. Had to Selective Sync. That's where I'm at now, with the majority of my files no longer synced to my laptop but just online, removed through Selective Sync. Not what I want at all. Dropbox still stuck "Updating 159 files" and I'm trying to figure out how to add files back to my hard drive without going through this all again. Dropbox: why not warn users that EVERY FILE on Dropbox will need to be indexed to the hard drive, and if there is not enough hard drive space, don't update to File Provider! Obviously it doesn't work as it has currently been released. I've tried to follow up with myTicket #23683048 this morning but hours later, no reply.
