You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.
Shared Links
36 TopicsDefault Share Option should be "View" not "Edit"
Hello, I am a Dropbox business admin that shares a lot of links with people outside of my organization. I'm not sure when it happened but as some point the default for sharing switched from "View" to "Edit". When you click the "Copy Link" button, it creates an edit link, not a view link. When you click the three dots, then go "Share with Dropbox", and the pop up window appears, the default is "can edit". Furthermore, in the dropbox app (Finder on Mac), the "Copy Dropbox Link" option creates an edit link. I'm sure I'm not the only one who does not want random people being able to upload to my dropbox. To be sure, I do not want to get rid of "Edit", but making it the default seems an odd choice. This means that even the most diligent of user (myself) accidentally sends Edit links. People who are not diligent send them exclusively. Thank you!16KViews30likes27CommentsDelete multiple shared links option
THERE SHOULD BE AN OPTION TO DELETE MULTIPLES SHARED LINKS AT ONCE. PEOPLE ARE BUYING UR SERVICES BY PAYING ALOT BECAUSE ITS GOOD TO KEEP YOUR DATA ON CLOUDS RATHER THEN KEEPING IT IN MOBILE OR LAPTOPS. YOU SHOULD MAKE MULTIPLE LINKS DELETE OPTIONS SO THAT WE CAN DELETE OLD LINKS EASILY RIGHT NOW AM SITTING FROM PAST 1 HOUR AND DELETING OLD LINKS ONE BY ONE....ALSO ITS HARD TO GO TO EVERY FOLDER AND VALIDATE TIME FOR EVERY SINGLE FOLDER MAKE IT SIMPLE AND BRING AN OPTION IN DROPBOX SETTINGS WHERE WE CAN VALIDATE ALL THE FOLDERS FOR PARTICULAR DAYS RATHER THEN DOING IT IN EVERY SINGLE FOLDER WE SHARE ONE OPTION FOR ALL THE FILES.8.5KViews19likes14CommentsOpen shared links directly in native app
A few years have passed since this request and as a business this would save us allot of time and irritation. As a company we share daily hundreds of links to files via Microsoft Teams with each other. Now the situation is as follow: 1 link is shared 2 team member clicks on the link 3 browser opens the link to the file 4 user clicks on 'open in dropbox' button Ideal situation would be that admins and users have a File open preference, where links to files can directly open in the native apps: 1 link is shared 2 team member clicks on it and the file is synced and opened in the native app Microsoft Teams has a great solution to this problem for Office-applications, called File open preference, see screenshot. It would be great if Dropbox could also build this feature in it's Dropbox-apps.8.1KViews17likes4CommentsCustom URL for all public links (Or custom domain)
Hi! I would suggest something that sounds very well: custom URL with the username. https: //www.dropbox.com/s/ ........ There is some way the link is based on my username for example: https: //www.dropbox.com/s/FJR/ .......... Things of this type, could be useful for example to identify if that URL in the system is from a file that has as owner someone pre-authorized ... Among other dozens of benefits 😄 My suggestion is to have an account option where I can choose my custom URL and decide if it applies to all my public links or only in some specific folder (thinking about privacy) In my case I would rather that all the links I generate had my custom URL, even the links we generate with right mouse button on Windows. PS: Custom Domain would also be incredible to have, a whitlabel for advanced Dropbox accounts.8KViews17likes6CommentsObtain Shared link URLs for multiple files / Export to CSV
Like MANY others, we have a requirement to upload multiple new products or product updates to a website via CSV file. That upload must include all of the product information ... specifically including the location (URL) of image files to be uploaded. The website could be any of our three business sites; it could be Amazon; it could be eBay. Or it could be a matter of enabling our Clients to download via spreadsheet listing the individual image files relevant to their particular business. In any case - whilst I can currently cut-n-paste individual URLs for files in a DropBox folder into a spreadsheet, I have to do so ONE AT A TIME. (And I definitely like the fact that DropBox enables me to password protect the download facility ... and/or place a time limit expiry on the facility) What I can't do is select one, two, many or all files in a folder and obtain a bulk listing of URLs to be copied into my spreadsheet. (And - NO! - the URL for the overall Folder is NOT an viable alternative) PhotoBucket has a very nice facility for this particular capabillity. (And is the only reason I have to ever consider using PB). (And - NO - this isn't about enabling websites to embed links on those sites so that the images are constantly served from DropBox)12KViews16likes17CommentsCreate a shared link to a specific PDF page
I would like to be able to create links that open to a specific page in a pdf file stored in my dropbox. Better yet, I'd like to be able to have the link go to the first page in which a particular text string is found. I know this can be done with pdf files stored on a server when the url ends with <filename>.pdf, but I cannot figure out how to modify the dropbox link to access a particular page or text string.7.4KViews15likes8CommentsRemove fake file activity when not logged in
After I upload a file to Dropbox for others to download, the recipients (without Dropbox accounts) open the link and see, under “Activity”: “Patricia Johnson downloaded this file” and “Anthony Abate viewed this file”: Apparently, this is supposed to be just an example of what file activity would look like if one were signed in to the account. However, it’s not obvious that this is the case, and has (understandably) caused concern for those who believe their privacy has been breached. Please remove this “feature”.6.3KViews9likes10CommentsHave list view as default when viewing files and folders via shared link
When a link to a folder that's shared from the contextual menu on macOS is viewed in the browser by somebody who does not have an account with Dropbox, folders and files arenot displayed in list view, so (a) file names are trunkated and (b) more scrolling is to do. To combat those 2 disadvantages it would be an idea to have list view as default. Then less scrolling would have to be done and the file names are better to read because more characters would display. The average user may not see the (a) very little and(b) quite pale list view option icon which is (c) placed far away, top right. Please try this yourself when not being logged into your account. See example here:https://www.dropbox.com/s/f6s4xzhe6hmicbo/Screenshot%202017-04-27%2003.52.29.png?dl=0 –Martino7.2KViews9likes6CommentsEmbbedable Pinterest like grid view for shared link viewing
When brainstorming ideas and collecting references for a project, I find myself downloading images from the web, making screen shots from various social media platforms, taking pictures in books and storing all those files in a dropbox folder that I share with my team. Pinterest is a great tool but you can't have private and shared collections and you can't reference the pins you saved to use them in indesign or word. Dropbox could be the best tool to share moodboard collections that are both visible online and usable as files for other apps. It would be great to have a view only link of a beautiful grid that I can share in slack or paste in notion. If I collaborate with others, people could add their ideas to the folder and this would be reflected in all shared docs that have the view embedded. Wouldn't that be cool ?1.2KViews2likes5Comments
