Shared Folders
18 TopicsView all the folders a person has been given access to and also remove other peoples access
I would like to be able to view all of the folders that a person has been given access to, and I would also like to be able to remove other people's access from multiple shared folders at the same time. This would greatly speed up the management of folder sharing - now I have to click on each folder and remove or add the person.129Views0likes2CommentsHow about simple user auditing? Why can't we pull all access for each user via reporting, etc?
How about simple user auditing? Why can't we pull all access for each user via reporting or Dropbox options of some sort? Archaic otherwise. Instead, we currently have to go through each individual FOLDER and check the MEMBERS. What if you have over 100 folders?985Views1like5CommentsAllow us to generate a report on who has edit/view access on shared folders
You are seemingly unable to generate a report that shows a simple access control list of who, within and organization, is allowed to view/change files in a folder? I understand that you can go to folders, one by one, and view (via 'modify') the currently assigned company users. But the ability to generate a simple csv file listing the directory name and all user names assigned to or allowed to read or read write is critical for both security and financial audit process. Given the Unix underpinnings for the product, this function exists as core to the OS, but sadly is missing from the system features.2.9KViews5likes9CommentsOption for Clients to "star" or "favorite" Images
The option for Clients to "star" or "favorite" Images in a shared folder would be insanely useful. It's surprising this still hasn't been added yet as a feature. Especially given the introduction of Replay for video feedback, and the fact that commenting already exists for photos and stars exist for internal favorites—all we need is the option for external clients to also "star" photos the way they can comment on photos. Currently, we have to use third-party programs to share photo proofs with clients just so they can select the images they want to purchase. Comments alone are too cumbersome when there's hundreds of images to go through. One tiny addition of a star would make Dropbox for photos unbeatable!370Views4likes1CommentWhen renaming shared folders, also change the name of the folder for other users
Issue with DropBox and it's permissions/roles associated with users and folder renaming and file visibility. Background Example: When have a Team Folder at the top level with multiple subfolders under it. We have users with permission to edit starting at the Team Level. Scenario: We create a folder at a sublevel that is a placeholder folder for a specific job or task with basic information placed within, as yet unassigned to a specific Job or Task. Once that subfolder is assigned for work, we rename the folder to encompass the specific job or task. This final name should be updated globally for all users going forward to work on or within this folder. We are wanting to use DropBox like a Network administrator would set permissions for their folder structure/file management system. If a user has permission to change a folder, then that change should be reflected to all users who have access to that "network" folder. Permissions should propogate all changes, without having to unshare and reshare the folder anytime a rename occurs. This should happen automatically. The Point of DropBox would be for an Organization to be able to have a shared system that is actually of use. The point is the abililty to have individual users, who have full access to the folders, be able to update folders with changes and statuses, including name changes and have those changes pushed to all users who then attempt to access that folder. We are not looking for a local back copy that is based off a period of time. This needs to be a fluid operation, like Active Directory and other Server/Network based permissions. If permissions are granted, then those changes should always be updated automatically, so users always see the latest and greatest contents of folder names and files therein. This is used for Auditing Purposes and tracking user's work. If we are unable to automatically see the changes, due to the limitations of DropBox, then what is the point of a shared system that does not automatically sync "ALL CHANGES"? I see others have had similar issues and the option of unsharing, renaming, and the resharing is a total waste of time and counter-intuitive to how the Cloud Based file sharing system should work.846Views0likes1CommentOpen links to files in shared folders directly in Finder instead of the site
Our company uses Dropbox Business, and teammates regularly send e-mailed links to files within the shared folders. Clicking them spawns the web browser which then prompts me to download a copy of the file instead of taking me to the file, which might be nested in a folder several layers deep,in the Dropbox app or Finder. So my request is to give users an option to open links to files that are already in the shared Dropbox folders using Finder, or at least the Dropbox desktop app.814Views2likes3CommentsPreventing folders from being moved
Looking for a way, as admin to a shared folder which contains sub-folders, to keep other team members from accidentally moving those sub-folders. Part of it is education: novices do not grasp that by moving a folder to their desktop (for whatever reason) they are moving it out of DB and visibility to the rest of the team. This has occurred a few times, and as the team grows, it would be better if admin could lock a folder's POSITION. Probably would be a benefit to keep the folders from being renamed, but that is less likely to happen. Users should still be able to freely work with and move files as needed within the locked-position folders. Maybe there is a way to do this that I'm not aware of. Third party folder manager (those I reviewed are focused on encrypting, password protecting and/or hiding folders)? Any advice would be appreciated.23KViews51likes45CommentsGive us back custom icons for shared folders
It has been a year since the last update on the thread about this problem and it looks like commenting was shut off... and still no resolution. (https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-installs-integrations/Custom-folder-icons-vanish-when-folder-moved-into-DB/td-p/330443 ) It is incredibly frustrating that we cannot use custom icons for shared folders. This was something that we used to be able to do (about 2 years ago.) I have my Dropbox folders sorted by client, and some are shared with the client. I would like to have the ability to have that client's logo as the folder icon again, so it is much faster to see which folder is which, rather than them all being plain blue folders.1.7KViews5likes4CommentsRejoin or Re-Add a shared folder in Dropbox
Make Rejoining multiple shared folders easier by not opening the folder in the same tab. So that users don’t need to go back and scroll down again to add another folder. Hope Dropbox can just open the folder in a new tab after clicking the "Add to Dropbox” button.400Views0likes1Comment
