Hi folks, The Dropbox website athttps://www.dropbox.com/features/share/password-protection clearly states that it is possible to password protect a folder in Dropbox, and has an animation on the page that seems to show this happening in a couple of simple steps. However, my version of Dropbox (the basic personal free version) looks nothing like that, and this Dropbox forum has a number of (possibly out of date) posts stating it's not possible to password protect a folder. Can this be done, or do I need to look for a different product? The options I seem to have around sharing and security seem to have are very limited. Even in a free version, I'd expect to be able to add layers of good security! Thanks, GlenSolved27KViews0likes13CommentsSecurity of Dropbox links
It occurred to me today when I Ducksearched to find a public Dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/s/br7d9jigsldnvjy/[1] that Dropbox appears to be practicing Security Through Obscurity. What prevents brute-force attacks from guessing the br7d9jigsldnvjy part of the URL to find any shared file from anyone? I recently shared a video from my public Dropbox folder - I copy/pasted a link to the video. When I shared the video w a friend, they pointed out that my full name shows up on the video link!! That's very concerning seeing that it's in the public folder which I would expect the Dropbox team to take appropriate precautions for maintaining my privacy - especially if I shared a file from my public folder. Interestingly that doesn't come up when I check on my laptop. But I just checked the link on my phone, and I see my full name! See attach a screenshot below.. (I blocked out my last name and the file name, but you can see my name shows up in the circled area) Does anyone know to remove my full name when sharing a link like this through my public Dropbox folder?5.2KViews2likes3CommentsHow secure is Dropbox when it comes to sharing sensitive information?
I'm just wondering how secure and safe is drop box for sharing sensitive information. Using a gmail or other email account to send a file through drop box for example. Is there a way or need when you send a file to add a passcode requirement to the recipient? Also is drop box more secure to share through than that google drive? Thanks in Advance.Solved3KViews1like2CommentsHow secure are file requests?
Hi, I have been asked to judge a photocompetition. It is national (UK) and means I need to find a way of allowing people to post the photos to me. I am thinking of creating a file on my Dropbox for this and then will need to publish a file request link in the club magazine so people can post. There could be a couple of hundred photos.. I am little concerned about the security of this. Could someone send a photo with malware and, by accepting the post, I will infect my computer? If my computer will be secure then fine, if not any other suggestions would be appreciated. I do have antivirus software running on my iMac. thanksSolved2.7KViews0likes3CommentsEmail Address Privacy Toggle Switch for Shared Folders for Users That Only Have the Ability to View
When you "share a folder" all users of that folder can see all of the other users email addresses. This is privacy issue. If I give 500 people the ability to "view" but not "edit" the folder, I don't want all these people to see the other people's email addresses. There is no reason for them to see them. There is no collaboration in the folder. I am just sharing it. So, to uphold someone's privacy the 500 other people that they don't know should not have the ability see other people's email addresses. There is no Dropbox plan, no option to hide email addresses among those that can only "view" the folder. This is a major privacy issue. Ideally, a simple switch should be put on the owner's dashboard (the person that is sharing the folder) to hide all email addresses so each person in the folder doesn't have the ability to see all the other peoples email addresses. Doesn't seem logical that this "switch" isn't already a feature due to privacy issues.1.9KViews1like6Comments
