183 TopicsDropbox very slow with Windows explorer
After wasting time, as usual, with Dropbox's assistance, I try to ask here. My problem is relatively simple to explain and consists in the fact that if I use Windows Explorer, navigating in the Dropbox folder is torture since any operation it's very slow (creating a folder, copying a file, etc...) while if I use, for example (but it couldn't be the solution) a file explorer like Explorer++ everything works perfectly. Another thing I verified is that if I navigate to the Dropbox folder from a Windows window that opens for example when I want to open/save a file, everything works without problems. The problem remains confined to windows explorer. Can anybody help me? Thank you6.1KViews7likes12CommentsFeedback about the file path change
I've read a couple threads on here, and I've seen the response about how "each team member will have a personal folder by default, which contains their own personal files/folders, as well as files that have been shared with them." The next time another idea or suggest comes through that involves changing a folder path - take it back to the drawing board. I could think of at least two other ways that 'personal folders' could have been implemented while maintaining the existing structure - and that was only in the past day since this fiasco started. The change has disrupted business. Let me give you some data points to include for future test cases to use. 1) Quick Access broke. Easy enough fix.. unpin and re-pin after successfully syncing up. 2) Excel links that were direct paths broke - literally have to go through each excel file and update links manually. I have a PowerShell script that does this.. but anyone without that script will have to manually update the links. 3) Out of 25 users, only 2 had a successful transition with the folder rename via their Dropbox Update. About 10 involved shutting down Dropbox because it was either stuck on database upgrade or starting. Had to restart the computer, and then allow Dropbox to run to get it to successfully transition. Also - when this happened, it didn't put it back where the folder was originally but ended up defaulting to the User's folder in Windows. The remaining workstations involved deleting Dropbox altogether and reinstalling manually. Any work that was done during the day was completely wiped. My client is furious and rightly so.Solved2.2KViews4likes4CommentsOffline Online Green checkmark / Cloud icon indicators not visible / Finder MacOs 12.3 M1
Hi, was wondering if the Green / partially green and Cloud icon indicators for Selective sync inside finder are coming back soon? I know that you're working on a fix with new Macs and online previewing, is this part of the same problem? Dropbox v145.4.4921 MacOs 12.3 M1 Hope to hear from you, makes it really hard to get an indication which folders and files are stored locally. What is the reason for not allowing me to specify where I want to save my Dropbox files in Ventura? I don't have enough space in my system drive to keep a copy of my Dropbox files. And yes, I need a local copy at all times. I tried replacing the folder with a symlink pointing to an external drive but that does not work. Dropbox just refuses to load and these are the last lines of the log file: Traceback (most recent call last): File "dropbox/client/main.pyc", line 5055, in _setup_root_for_account File "dropbox/sync_root/helpers.pyc", line 164, in create_root_for_account File "dropbox/foundation/futures/basic.pyc", line 853, in result File "dropbox/sync_root/handlers/macos/file_provider.pyc", line 121, in set_result_or_convert_exception dropbox.mac.internal.MacError: [Errno 62] Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=62 "Too many levels of symbolic links" It looks like 1 level of symbolic links is one level too many. A search for Venture did not yield any results I found relevant. I need to know how to relocate the Dropbox folder. If I cannot relocate the folder, Dropbox loses its utility and that only means I will have to look for alternatives. I really hope I don't need to do that.Solved19KViews2likes26CommentsHow can I move the Dropbox folder on Ubuntu 24.10 without a GUI?
In my new Ubuntu 24.10 with Dropbox installed from a .deb file downloaded from the official site, I can't manage its configuration. The GUI does not work here. I HAVE TO change the location of the ~Dropbox. It does not have any command to perform this change. Where is the configuration file with parameters about Dropbox's behavior? Any help will be so much appreciated. Thanks in advance.291Views1like2CommentsI see duplicate Dropbox folders on Windows, after reinstalling the desktop app, and they both sync
Hi there I had a problem where I noticed one day about a month or so ago that my backup of my current computer had disappeared so couldnt access any files from my computer on my phone. The only way I could see to fix it was to reinstall dropbox on my computer which it fix the backup problem. However I now have a problem on my computer where my windows explorer shows two indentical dropbox folders. How do I remove of them without losing any files? Anything I do to one of the folders affects the other, they both have the same files and both sync. Thanks in advance.Solved6.7KViews1like29Comments
