Dropbox randomly updated to some new version and said everything is moving to Library/CloudStorage or something like that, now I can't open files directly in Spotlight OR find using folder search in Finder (although global search "This Mac" works). Biggest issues: 1. Searching using spotlight and clicking on it DOES NOTHING! 2. If I am in a folder within Dropbox folder on my Mac, and I want to search for a file IN that folder using Finder, it doesn't find any file if I search using the search box in Finder, I have to click "This Mac" to find files but it finds files from EVERYWHERE when I only want to find files from within that specific Dropbox folder that I am currently in How do I fix this? I need this functionality working ASAP ! Moderated edited to remove swearingSolved8.9KViews9likes34CommentsCan't Drag and Drop into Dropbox from Finder Sidebar
I hope this is the correct place to post this. I commonly drag things from a local drive into Dropbox in Finder, using the sidebar, usually to upload for client access. It is a common enough action that the following problem is a significant workflow hampering. When I try to drag things into dropbox using the sidebar, it won't let me. A slashed-through circle icon appears. Why is this? Is it a permissions thing? Can this be fixed? I know it does no good, but I must be allowed a short rant. Dropbox worked FINE. I don't know why this new "update" needed to happen (demands of Apple's increasingly strict OS updates?), but it is just so frustrating when an "update" is not as functional as previous versions. Now I have to take 10 minutes out of my day to post about this in hopes that there is a fix. There are workarounds, sure, but you do this action 100s of times a day, the extra 3-4 seconds it takes adds up. Also it's a just a dumb problem to be having. Ok rant over.Solved6.3KViews8likes26CommentsMissing the Dropbox context menus in Mac Finder
Hi everyone - I have been a Dropbox Professional user for about 3 years and 9 years with Dropbox altogether so I have really benefitted from it but recently, a feature I have used alot, the Dropbox Mac Finder context menus (I hope I am describing this correctly) have disappeared. It seemed to coincide with me opting in as a Beta tester and then opting out, and/or a Mac upgrade to Monterey 12.2, not sure which or if either caused it. Dropbox support tried to help but to no avail however I was prompted to set up a new user profile in Mac and download Dropbox and see what happened, and sure enough, all the context menu options appeared however I don't want to have to move everything over to the new profile just because of this issue. Plus, I'm interested to find the real solution. Thanks for any thoughts on this. It's very frustrating as I can't just copy a Dropbox link or select/unselect SmartSync on a per file basis as I have done all the time.Solved6KViews1like15CommentsIssues with Dropbox File Provider on the Mac
I am writing this both on behalf of myself (personal pro account), but also a company I am director (business account). But moreover, as member of a large ongoing discussion with a number of other professionals who, like myself work in the music industry who are experiencing huge issues with the new file provider version of dropbox. Many of whom are already leaving dropbox I appreciate that it is Apple that have enforced the new API. However, the new version is not fit for purpose for the following reasons: 1> Not being able to keep dropbox on an external drive is an essential for people like myself who have large projects that they need to share with other collaborators, but need ready access to. It is simply not realistic or possible to try and have all this data on the main SSD. In my case I have a Mac mini with 256GB SSD as a server for my assistants and I, connected to a much larger drive array. 2>uploads/downlaods are broken with the new fileprovider. I've been waiting 2 days for files to upload that should have taken 2 hours. Files randomly appear suddenly switch to online only, some files never upload and some never download. The basic function of dropbox is not working 3>Dropbox is deleting files randomly. This is the most worying of all. A number of files have either been deleted (and I've had to recover from deleted files and time machine) OR in the case of logic projects, the .logicx files are dissapearing randomly My main computer is a Mac Studio M2, running Ventura but we are also experiencing the same issues on M1 Mac Studios on monteray and Mac mini M1 on monteray Can dropbox tell us that there is a pathway in place to resolve this, or should we just cancel our subscriptions nowSolved5.2KViews2likes25CommentsDropbox vs. Ventura nightmare (191.4.4995)
Welp, week two and the "new" Dropbox update continues to reek havoc on my iMac. I've read a lot of community threads, and can already weed out that this is not a "beta" version. I've installed DB version191.4.4995, on Ventura 13.6.1, and now I've updated to Ventura 13.6.4. After countless system restarts, the Dropbox icon in the top menu bar is constantly grayed out while the Sync History tab says "Starting." Hours go by and nothing happens. Meanwhile, I can not access any files in my Finder that are from DB folders. Please tell me there's a fix for this. I went a long round with support last week, and they instructed me to do a Terminal command process to look for "Symlinks" (which I said I would not do because it did not make sense with what I was experiencing), and then out of nowhere, all of a sudden, DB just started working. That lasted for the afternoon but the next day on restart it was back to the beginning again. This has kept my iMac's fan constantly spinning up and CPU usage spiking. "fileproviderd" has constantly been over 100% of CPU usage. And "rtcreportingd" has sometimes jumped way up, other times been around 17% of CPU usage.Solved4.5KViews0likes27CommentsGreen Check Marks No Longer Appearing in MacOS Ventura Finder
Hi, I am running MacOS 13.1 on a 2021 M1 MacBook Pro. All of a sudden, several days after I updated to the latest OS version, the blue syncing, and green check marks no longer appear in the finder for my Dropbox Files. According to the menubar icon it is still syncing, and in the web version I think my files are still updating. I am using Dropbox v163.4.5456. I am on a Professional Plan. Are there any known issues? Any way to fix this? Any more info you need in order to help me out? I appreciate any and all responses3KViews1like8CommentsOnline-only and available offline file options do not appear
Hello I'm getting differentonline offline file options from othercolleagues on a shared company account. I get the option to make a file offline, but then I'm unable to get an option to return file to online? When I go preferences under Sync on my account settings, there seems to be a missing top section in the panel which my other colleagues have also, not sure if this is the issue? If so how can I get access to this missing section in my preferences? ThanksSolved2.8KViews0likes13CommentsIndexing stand off with Windows!
My Dropbox seems to be in a fight with Windows Search indexer! Dropbox indexes... when it finishes, windows will start... then Dropbox indexes again! And so on and son on... been happening for a couple of weeks now, and its slowing down my machine and making file explorer hard to use. Turning off windows indexer seems to cause other issue with searching on the laptop... and I cant stop DB from indexing! Has anyone had, and fixed, this issue?2.7KViews0likes16CommentsCannot change settings in Dropbox for Linux (Fedora 36)
It's very frustrating to pay the full price of Dropbox every year and get less than sub-par support for the Linux community. I am using Fedora 36, GNOME 42 and Dropbox seems to run OK. However, I had to enable "legacy icon support", etc. to get the icon to appear in my top bar. However, the icon does nothing. When I click on it, nothing happens. It used to open a menu where I could change settings. But nothing. I don't mind using the command line. However, I need to enable selective sync and I *REALLY* need to move the default location from my home drive to another drive. It's beyond frustrating this basic feature is not available for Linux users. Is there a config or something I can change to move the folder?2.7KViews0likes6Comments"updated version of Dropbox for macOS is ready" but no "Get started"
I received an email on 15th Feb 2023 saying "an updated version of Dropbox for macOS is ready" and "...click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar. On the notification that appears, click Get started". I'm on the latest version of macOS Ventura but there's no notification on my Dropbox icon in the menu bar. Is this an error? The email led me to believe that the updated version of Dropbox is available now. Should I uninstall Dropbox and reinstall to get it?Solved2.5KViews0likes17Comments
