Dropbox Plus
26 TopicsLost earned storage data after downgrading subscripiton
I have used drop box for many years for free and had accumulated 5.75 Gb of extra storage space from inviting friends to dropbox. For the last few years I needed more space so got a Plus account. Recently, I downgraded back to a free Basic account and, although in my history still says that I have earned 5.75Gb of storage space, my account has reverted to only the 2 gb that one gets when signing up for free. It seems impossible to contact dropbox support. Does anybody know how to get those lost Gbs back??? Many thanks in advanceSolved7.8KViews2likes19CommentsPaid for upgrade through iOS app and got nothing
Last Wednesday: 1. In iOS app, selected Upgrade Account and selected “$9.99 a month.” 2. App charged me $99.99. 3. Dropbox account stayed at Basic. Since Friday, been trying to find out what I can do to get my account set to Plus. But Dropbox claims it’s Apple’s issueand Apple’s troubleshooting says that I have to contact Dropbox. I have tickets open with both Apple and Dropbox, but neither have been answered. In the meantime, I have run out of space for a client project. Any tips for how I can get the upgrade I paid for?Solved5.1KViews0likes11CommentsRecipient of my shared folder is getting a "storage full" error
Hello all, I suspect I know the answer to this after reading through some related posts, but there was none with this specific setup, so before I devise a complicated workaround I wanted to check in with y'all. I'm starting a new podcast project, and I created a folder for audio files. I have 2TB of storage and only use about half of it at this point. I shared my folder with my cohost, since he is going to be editing the show. We are in different parts of the country so are using my Dropbox to me to send him my audio. He puts our two sides of the conversation together, and then posts the finished podcast. After only three episodes, he is getting a "storage full" error, even though the folder is not originally his. Question: Am I correct in saying that because I've shared the folder with him and given him read and write access, that the folder counts towards his storage cap? And will it NOT count against him if he only has read access? Question followup: If that is the case, the simplest workaround I can think of is to create a second unshared folder that only lives on my computer, and I just drag finished episodes into there, which should move them out of our shared folder and free up the space for him. OR, I make the main folder read-only for him, but set up a file request folder that he can upload files to, but that seems pretty cumbersome. Thoughts? Thank you! ~TravisSolved2.8KViews0likes2CommentsCan I sync a folder to an external drive?
I'm on a macbook pro laptop with a 500GB internal drive. A client shared a folder of multiple video projects that I couldn't see the full data size in dropbox. I decided to join it as downloading gave the "zip too large" error in dropbox web app. Left overnight to sync the folder locally and in the moring found an unresposive mac with 50kb left on the harddrive. Took days to fix as computer couldn't boot and even the harddrive mounted as a target drive wouldn't allow deleting (new AFPS reality). Computer now fixed by making a backup and then startingup in recovery mode and using a terminal command to delete the VM drive. I'm detailing this to help any other mac user that encounter this issue. My Question: Is there a way to download the shared folder to an external drive? (i dont need it to stay in sync, I just need the files and the folder structure) thanksSolved2.6KViews0likes3CommentsMacOS Dropbox folder location change and free disk space discrepancy
Apparently Apple started requiring File Providers like Dropbox to move their folders to ~user/library/cloudstorage, leaving only a folder alias at the original location. This caused problems in the beginning with file searches but these finally got sorted out. What is strange is that I recently replaced my laptop and after reinstalling Dropbox, the new default folder location is where it originally was, not in library/cloudstorage, and it's no longer an alias. I'd like to change this on my [older] home computer but I'm not sure if this is wise or even supported. I should mention that I'm running the newest Dropbox beta release, and the Dropbox helpdesk is encouraging me to reinstall Dropbox using the latest 'stable' build and not the beta. Does anyone have any experience with this? Second issue is a question of free disk space. I use PathFinder instead of the Mac Finder but these two utilities give different values for the remaining free space on disk. When determining the amount of free space, the Mac Finder seems to ignore the Dropbox folder entirely wherever it might be whereas PathFinder does include it. In other words, the Mac Finder [erroneously] lists an additional amount of free space equivalent to the size of the Dropbox folder. The Mac Disk Utility agrees with PathFinder's assessment of the amount of free space. Does anyone understand why this happens?2.1KViews0likes7CommentsWarning! - Dropbox Plus “Free Trial”
I was nearing my Dropbox storage limit. I had an increased storage size in my basic account due to many referrals to friends and companies I worked for over many years and taking tutorials in the past. I was offered a “free trial” to Dropbox Plus, with seemingly no option to refuse it. I used the (what I thought of as temporary) time and extra capacity, to do housekeeping in my account and move off a lot of photographs to other storage. With a few days of the so-called trial left to run, I looked for ways to cancel it and return to my former plan. I discovered to my horror that if you do not take up the paid upgrade (at 120 a year), Dropbox does NOT restore your former Dropbox storage limit but drops you to its current basic plan of 2 GB. So, having removed several hundred photos and videos, I now find myself around double the limit with no means of restoring functionality to Dropbox other than by removing more than half the remaining files, negating any purpose in having an account at all. Dropbox was the first and simplest cloud storage/sync solution. It has always worked flawlessly for me. That’s why I have recommended to employers, work colleagues, friend and families for decades. However, this action, a “free” offer, which cannot actually be refused, along with a penalty for not completing an expensive upgrade, that you are not warned of in advance - will drive me away and encourage my contacts to also. It is blatant misrepresentation at best, potential fraud in reality. Be VERY careful to check your storage capacity and current use! Do NOT proceed with the “free” upgrade unless you are prepared to pay. You cannot go back!2.1KViews0likes2CommentsHow can I check my storage on Dropbox?
Hello all, Dropbox added me in a free trial I did not request. I had free 2 GB now they want $11.99/month for 2 TB. I am a sole user and will never need that. If I transfer some files elsewhere like my free Google Drive, how can I check my storage on Dropbox as I delete enough files to get back under 2 GB? Can I continue to use my free account then? How please. Thank you.Solved1.9KViews1like5CommentsIncrease of 200GB internal storage space and AirDrop transfers intermittent
Hello, Since the most recent Dropbox update, I've noticed that roughly 200GB's worth of storage has miraculously become available on my MacBook's internal SSD. This space wasn't available prior to the Dropbox update.200GB seemingly appearing out of nowhere is very concerning, but I can't seem to find what could have possibly been deleted - the trash is empty. Could it have been duplicate files being purged that I wasn't aware of? Also, when AirDropping files from my iPhone, they don't always show up in the Downloads folder despite receiving the "Sent" and "Received" notifications in the Recent Notifications bar as well as seeing the Downloads folder icon bouncing in the dock. Has anyone else experienced similar after updating to the latest version of Dropbox?1.8KViews0likes8CommentsCannot view size of Vault or any folders within it using Web interface.
I cannot view size of my Vault, as calculate size doesn't seem to be an option for it when displaying "All Files", and I only get the following when trying to calculate any folder sizes within the Vault (the folder in the example is not large at all).1.6KViews0likes7Comments
