Unable to stop or turn off desktop backup [SOLVED]
A while ago I turned on the new 'backup desktop/documents/downloads' feature. Now I want to turn it off, but I can't. There's no obvious 'turn this feature off' button. All the instructions I've seen point to a 'manage backups' or 'import' tab, which I don't have. I've upgraded to the latest Beta (Win 10), uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted several times and nothing. I've just set Dropbox up again and I have unchecked the 'MY PC' box. But Dropbox is just merrily syncing all my stuff again. It's insane that Dropbox would enable this feature and not give users a simple way to turn the thing off. Hi, all! I have some old flash drives that I just backed up on my MACBOOK. They appear in DropBox Backups. Dropbox has taken over files into my PC, and how I can restore them
I bought a new PC a couple of years ago and decided it would be a good idea to install Dropbox. I am not a techie and somehow every single document and file that I have created, despite being saved to my PC, was also saved in dropbox. I really did not want this to happen as I wanted to keep dropbox for the important and quick-to-access stuff. The really bad news was that it also decided to transfer massive historic files into itself without my wanting it too, hence the knotweed analogy - I simply couldn't find a means of stopping it as none of the google search steps matched what I was seeing in dropbox. There was no 'pause syncing' button. Today I deleted a few unwanted files but decided to remove the software from my desktop. Every single file that I had saved to my PC has been removed, this even though they were only meant to be saved on my PC, not in dropbox. I accessed the app and emailed certain files to myself but they cannot be downloaded. How is this even possible? What's the solution to: 1. Preventing dropbox from stealing every piece of my data and storing it in itself if / when I re-install it? 2. Recovering my spreadsheets etc without manually reconstructing them? attempted to zip too many files error when wanting to download backup
Hi, iv'e backed up my dropbox files and i'm attempting to download them from the backup site. i'm reffering to:https://www.dropbox.com/backup/ when i go to the website and ask to download it, it tells me "Attempted to zip too many files". this made me loose a heart beat, though i know everything is there. i'm relying on this, which i guess was a fatal mistake. iv'e got all of my important files there, and i need them to continue my work - i used this as actual backup for some files, a big mistake 😞 i know everything is there, but how can i reach it if it can't download them? I did NOT ask for Backup feature. Backup just came and messed with my Desktop, not asking for any authorization. Every time I open Preferences then Backup, Manage, three folders (Desktop, Documents, Download), are already checked. Why??? Now, since every **bleep** morning when I turn on my PC the DropBox Backup asks me to backup two units, two Ram Disks that must NOT be touched at all, I really have enough. How to stop Airdrop transfers ending up in Dropbox downloads by default. How to change this?
Hi can anyone help me with something simple please? When using airdrop transfer. How can I have the airdrop transfer arrive in icloud so I can see the transfer across all my devices? Currently, my airdrop transfers keep going into dropbox "My Mac" folders which are 2 separate files for my desktop and laptop. I deleted the dropbox app off my desk and now I can't open my files. Now I can't even make a new folder on my desktop page, located any of my files, downloads or documents. I've contacted Apple and have been trying to get their help for the past 5 hours and they said it's probably because I had DropBox and it changed the files on my computer. iMac 2021 - Dropbox doesn't detect an external Samsung SSD drive
Hi all, I have the latest silicon iMac however keep all my files on a recently purchased external Samsung 1T SSD drive due to lack of hard drive space on my new Mac (256GB). So I wanted to sync my external hard drive to Dropbox. I couldn't do it simply because Dropbox doesn't detect the drive. I tried to connect my external drive to USB-C port at the back of my Mac, or via USB-A port using an external USB hub - no result. However when, for experiment sake, I connected my old portable WD Studio drive, Dropbox detected it straight away. All my portable drives are formatted to Mac Os Extended (Journaled) and I wouldn't want to change that. Can anyone help resolving this issue? Thanks in advance.Solved2.7KViews0likes9Comments
