The dropbox desktop app had such a great user interface and was a good workflow for our team.. unfortunately as of 17 Jan 2022, it has been dropped.. I wonder why this change was made, and i'm just hoping the application is being improved instead of being killed. What we enjoyed out of the desktop app was the ability to pin specific files to the main dropbox for quick access, which everyone was able to identify quickly. with the Finder app, it was hard to see pinned items, and with the website, its a redundant process – requiring lots of extra steps – having to open up the website to identify the folder before pinning them. the website does not give as much visual cues as the desktop app previously had. Please, dropbox, #bringitback!Solved20KViews25likes84CommentsFull File/Folder Name Display On Website & Mobile Apps
I use Dropbox on an iPad in landscape orientation. I would like the left panel to expand out so I can see the full file names. Truncated names are very annoying. At least let the name wrap. Seeing ... in the name is so annoying. Google Drive does it, why not you?8.7KViews13likes9CommentsCan't un-exclude directories with `dropbox.py exclude remove <directory>` on Ubuntu 20.04.2
I have a Linux machine (running Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS, "Focal Fossa") upon which I am running a "headless" Dropbox daemon as per here: https://www.dropbox.com/install-linux The Dropbox daemon is up to date: ``` $ dropbox.py version Dropbox daemon version: 125.4.3474 Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04 ``` This machine is truly "headless", so I am doing everything on the command line. Installation of the daemon and initial sync seemed to work fine, though autostart isn't working for me. I've found that I can exclude directories with `dropbox.py exclude add <directory>` just fine. When I run that command for a directory in my Dropbox, the directory briefly appears in the list output from `dropbox.py exclude`. However, once the directory is actually deleted from the local Dropbox directory, it disappears from the list too. For example, I do have a bunch of directories excluded, and they are not present in the local Dropbox directory. However, the tool incorrectly reports no excluded directories: ``` $ dropbox.py exclude No directories are being ignored. ``` This is fine, if a bit weird, but the problem is that I can't add excluded directories back (un-exclude them?) with `dropbox.py exclude remove <directory>`. That command outputs nothing and has no effect. Why not? How can I get this to work? It seems totally broken right now.7.6KViews10likes43CommentsNew Drobox app is terrible!
If I wanted to look at the latest files uploaded to my dropbox, I'd click on the dropbox icon in my menubar (Mac OS) and click on the folder containing the file that was last uploded as the folder tree was right under the file name. On top of that I could right click the file name in the app, copy a link to these files and share it with whatever app I wanted to as the link was now in my clipboard. I could also go to folder the file was in simply by clicking the name of it etc etc and now ALL I can do is open the file. Who makes these incredibly stupid and unintuitive design decisions? ADD functionality, don't remove it.Solved4.5KViews9likes20CommentsWhy did the location of my Dropbox folder change?
Today I noticed that right clicking on files in my Dropbox folder (the ones pinned to my Finder sidebar) did not bring up the Dropbox menu options. After further investigation I realized that Dropbox had moved my entire directory into /Users/library and displays this message, buried within preferences: This version of macOS requires Dropbox folders to be stored here: /Users/alex/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox I received no notice that this was happening. I have no idea when it happened and I have no way to know what version the files in the new directory are. What a mess! Any advice on how to ensure my files are up to date and if it's safe to delete the old dropbox directory? Thanks everyone I'm on v147.2.4724 of the Mac client on a M1 Macbook with Monterey 12.3.1Solved9.1KViews8likes23CommentsTERRIBLE SUPPORT SERVICE
I am extremely angry withthe unbelievably bad service from Dropbox. The Support Team in Australia as NO WAY OF CONTACTING their own Restorations Specialists team in the US. Having opened a ticket 4 days ago, I have not had my issued solved, I have emailed the US consultant repeatedly for an update (he told me it would take an hour to restore my lost job folders,3 days ago), I have called the Support team repeatedly for a status report but they have told me they have no internal communication with the other department. HOW CAN THIS BE POSSIBLE? I ampayingtop dollar for Dropbox Business for the assuranceof seemless business operation but yet no one can tell me what is happening, I am not receiving replies to my emails, and nobody by phone can give me an update. I cannot work without my files. I wrongly believed that storing them in Dropbox alonethey would be secure. Does anyone know how I can reach I higher level of management to speak to someone who can help?Solved7.3KViews8likes31CommentsDropbox constantly creating desktop.ini files - how do disable this?
As per the title; the latest dropbox is now generating desktop.ini files pretty much as soon as they're deleted (they were recreated only on dropbox starts earlier, so a delete upon startup was all I needed). This is detrimental for me; how can I disable this behaviour? They are pretty meaningless files, too, this is all in it: ■[ . There's also no promise of any solution, ever. This is what you get you bloody miserable user for paying for this product. I have a ton of photos that I've gone through one by one and starred the ones I want to be able to move into a separate folder. I now think that the "starring" exercise was useless. Hi Dropbox community - I'm a design researcher here at Dropbox. I'm curious about how you access Dropbox! How do you access Dropbox: the website, the desktop app (for mac/windows), and/or the mobile app (iOS, android)? For those you use, why do you use them? For those you don't, why not? Is there anything you wish you could do on one that you can't today? Why?9.5KViews6likes11Comments
