26 TopicsUsing Dropbox Camera Upload and Apple iCloud Photos
Hello, I have been using Dropbox automatic Camera Upload to backup photos that I take on my iPhone. I would also like to use Apple iCloud Photos to backup and syncronize my photos across multiple Apple devices. Once you take a photo with the iPhone the iCloud Photos functionality uploads the original photo and associated resolution to Apple iCloud. Once that upload of the original is complete, Apple stores a lower resolution version of the photo on the local iPhone in order to save space. I want to have the original (full resolution) version stored in Dropbox and not the lower resolution version. Can anyone help me understand whether Dropbox will store the original or the lower resolution photo file. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Hello, I have discovered a folder in my Dropbox entitled 'Camera Uploads' which is full of hundreds of photos and videos that are not mine. The files are dated from August 2012-November 2013 (which by coincidence is likely to be around about the same time that I set up my Dropbox account). I have not had reason to look in the folder before as I thought it was simply a default folder that Dropbox created on signup. At first I thought perhaps the folder had been shared with me accidentally but it turns out it is not a shared folder and Dropbox is telling me that the files were uploaded 'by you' (i.e. me!). Having searched the Dropbox community threads and Google I found someone who had a similar issue and one of the possible reasons given in the thread was that perhaps the user had used a shared computer in the past and left themselves signed into Dropbox and then someone else's phone photos were auto-backed up when they connected. I do not believe this to be the case for me. The reason being is that I looked through all the photos and videos to try to decipher if I knew the owner. I did not. However, one of the photos displayed a gig ticket stub which displayed the surname of the person who bought it - and lo and behold it happens to match my surname. This all seems to point to a scenario where someone with the same name as me was somehow able to sign in to my account and use it to back up their files. Can anyone (at Dropbox or otherwise) explain how this could possibly have happened? This is surely a security issue. The reason I was poking around in the folders is because I was preparing to start using Dropbox for my business needs but this issue has alarmed me and I now have strong doubts about the security of Dropbox, especially for sharing/storing confidential business files. BTW I have now changed my password and I was tempted to delete the folder but I feel kind of bad that I now have someone's personal photos (pics and videos of their kids in the school play etc.). I have tried to get in touch with someone at Dropbox but I currently have the basic free account and my options are limited to a chatbot or this forum (another turnoff - I hate when companies make it impossible to contact them!). Hoping you can help! Thanks, Nat7.7KViews0likes57CommentsPhotos tab on iOS shows photos all over the account
Hi, I share a folder with a gazillion photos and I don't want to see them mixed in with the photos I take on my iphone and upload via the photos tab. How can I choose to see only photos that I upload into Camera Uploads? Thanks!Solved4.3KViews0likes8Comments"Save HEIC photos as JPG" not working
Hi All. I often send pictures from my iphone to my dropbox using the dropbox iphone APP. When uploading there is an option to "save HEIC Photos as JPG". Unfortunately for me this option never worked. When a photo on the iphone was edited, it is always uploaded by the dropbox app as HEIC even though the option to save as JPG is checked. It has been like that for as long as I can remember. I'm using an iphone 11pro max with the latest IOS and Dropbox app.4.2KViews0likes13CommentsWhat do I do about my Live Photos and metadata on other uploads?
Dear Dropbox Community, I have read through so many posts after searching the term “Live Photos" but still do not know if Dropbox lets you upload Live Photos from an iOS device, using any method would be fine with me. I only care about preservation and maintaining metadata. So, can I make it simple and ask: Live Photos and DB, do they work together? I mentioned metadata; a possibly completely different question but I believe both belong in one, simple, "do this, ok?" Response. Please and thank you in advance— how should i upload any Photo or Video from my iPhone to Dropbox without wondering or worrying that metadata dates altered because I uploaded, let’s say, by clicking the plus sign in the app or going to the website and uploading that way. Will different ways of uploading result in different versions of the uploads of anything from my iPhone’s Photos? Thanks again, LBN. PS- i need to remove all media from an iPhone 8. My next post will be about not Photos, Live Photos and Videos but about voice memos & their data. But for right now, let’s just tell me what to do about my Live Photos! Hundreds. I hope I don’t have to AirDrop them to another apple device to keep them. I dont have that option. Dropbox is my only backup method for a while going forward. I would hate to end all those Photos as Live ones and hate to have the dates embedded mess up on everything i can upload if I can’t upload the live ones as is. No thread just says in February of 2021, yes DB works with Live Photos or No, you are in trouble. Especially because you don’t know which way you uploaded what. Tried all the ways. Sometimes metadata dates placed videos correctly in the timeline and other times with the exact same file, just left it in “this month”. It was from October 2018, definitely not this month! So i can only imagine what is happening when I upload the Live Photos... I did wonder why some photos didn’t show up on that part of the ios app, and one of the Live Photo threads taught me that edited photos dont. I manually upload everything so i think they are otherwise ok.3.4KViews1like3CommentsI have an issue on the mobile app due to camera uploads. Can you help?
For a while now, i have a "Couldn't upload photo. Tap for more info." When i tap, there's no image file shown. Possibly this occured when i have deleted several photos on my device before (or while) they were being uploaded. All the other photos both befor and after sync well. I've tried to clean cache, restart. Searched the community and help articles, both suggesting to contact support, but failed to find an6 contact option.Solved2.4KViews0likes2CommentsHow to stop my phone from backing up all my photos on my phone note 9 samsung

If I turn on automatic upload from my iOS camera, can I also easily move all the photos from Dropbox to a memory stick and the delete my Dropbox photos. I don’t necessarily want all my photos in Dropbox storage, would rather have them on a stick. I haven’t found a good way to directly bulk transfer photos from the phone to a memory stick.1.4KViews0likes1Comment
