I think you should make files stored offline on Android available in the file system. As it is now, the dropbox files marked as 'available offline' are hidden from the rest of the operating system. This gives a number of problems: 1: When opening a file in an app, that app may put the file path in its 'most recently used documents'-list. However, since the path it gets from the Dropbox-app is not long-lived, the 'most recently used documents'-list becomes unusable, since the links on it become dead rather quickly. 2: It makes using browsing apps, like photo viewers or podcast players, on your offline files impossible. 3: Some apps expect content to be found on the file system. For example, the samsung app used to download content onto a samsung smart watch, expects to find files in the file system. It cannot be used to download files from dropbox onto the smart watch. 4: Sometimes a smart phone is used a bit like a computer. Like uploading files to an FTP-server and the like. A FTP-client typically expects to find files on the file system, and allows them to be selected and uploaded. This does not work with Dropbox. A possible work-around is to export the contents from the dropbox offline folder onto the phones regular file system. This is unsatisfactory because: 1) It feels cumbersome. The number of clicks to send a podcast episode to a smart watch, or to download a .pdf from dropbox and upload to an FTP-server, becomes a few too many. 2) For files which can be edited (like password manager saves, various profiles, text documents etc), the user needs to remember to copy the file back to Dropbox, which is very error prone. Dropbox obviously already has technology to synk a file system folder with dropbox. Could not this functionality be offered on smart phones also?19KViews86likes82CommentsApp not work on device Galaxy S23 Ultra
Good day. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra device, and the dropbox application behaves very unexpectedly on it, I cannot use it. Below is a link to a video with details of the problem. The screen blinks and then nothing loads. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/m75dre15q5tpd60x1ymjk/Screen_Recording_20230915_114124_Dropbox.mp4?rlkey=nfuvxlvbw0ayzukl5jqk2ckkw&dl=0Solved2.2KViews1like2CommentsPhoto Location Information in Android App
When viewing photos it is possible to look at a subset of the 'Exif' data associated with a photo by clicking on the appropriate symbol (ⓘ in the Android App). The Android version shows the location (GPS) data. However, this appears to be wrong and in some cases, nonsensical. As an example, one photo is reported to have Latitude 108.035 N, Longitude 21.2805 E. Windows file properties and other apps report the correct location (approx. geo:51.951 N,1.348 E). Obviously 108N does not exist in the real world! Anyone know what is wrong with Dropbox?1.7KViews1like7CommentsAndroid application doesn't work on latest android (Samsung S23)
Hello! I'm trying to install the Dropbox application on my smartphone, but unfortunately something goes wrong. First, as usual, I enter my credentials, then 2-step verification code, application seems to be started, then asks a permission "allow notifications": allow or disable. But then, regardless the choice, the screen starts blinking and does not react on touches. Then I stop the application manually, and when I try to launch it again, only bluescreen with dropbox logo appears and lasts forever. I've installed the android application many times on different devices, all worked fine. But this time with this phone something is definitely wrong. My device is Samsung S23 Ultra (SM-918B/DS 512Gb). Latest updates, Android 13. Latest Dropbox application from Play Market. I've recorded the video with this bug (10 Mb, 1 min): https://www.dropbox.com/s/r9prndfmpgyf47e/video_2023-02-09_00-22-26.mp4?dl=0 I really enjoy using dropbox, so if it's necessary, I can provide additional information to make it better. After that when I try to open DropBox app then screen is just blue for 10sec and again app is turned off. As I can see this is not only my problem, already bunch of people left 1 star review on google store for the same reason. It's sad how we got to the point where such a good app can't even run anymore on android phone, -10 stars for engineering in DropBox team.2.2KViews1like6Comments"Dropbox keeps stopping" warning when launching app on Android - reinstall did not fix problem
I have a Pixel 4a (5G) running Android 12 with the most current system update (as of March 9, 2022). Dropbox has always worked flawlessly on this phone as well as my previous phones. Yesterday it stopped launching. When I tap on the app's icon I get the blue splash screen that I normally get when launching Dropbox, but then it vanishes and all I see is my normal home screen. If I continue to tap on Dropbox's icon, I eventually get a warning box that says "Dropbox keeps stopping" with three options available below the warning: "App info", "Close app", and "Send feedback". Dropbox works fine from my computer's internet browser. So I don't think my account is the problem - just the app on my cell phone. I have plenty of available memory on the phone. I have sent feedback twice. I have restarted my phone. I have uninstalled the Dropbox app and then reinstalled it. I have cleared its cache. I have clear its user data. I have checked its permissions. I have tried to contact Dropbox help via Twitter. I have restarted the phone again. I am unwilling to factory reset the phone because nothing else is failing - just Dropbox. Any ideas? I haven't see anything addressing this specific issue on these forums. Thank you.Solved3.1KViews1like7CommentsIs there a way to run the Dropbox app in the background on my iPhone?
Hey everyone, I just switched to an Android from an iPhone. I am facing a feature problem that I loved on my iPhone! Which is, if I open up an audio file from my dropbox app I can just do other stuff on my phone. On android however, it stops playing whenever I switch over to a different app. Is there a way to let it run in the background just like the iPhone? Thanks!3.2KViews1like9CommentsProblem at mobile app sign in "please enter a valid email address"
Hello, Dropbox was not always syncing via camera upload so I decided to reinstall (on Windows 7 PC and Android phone). The phone icon looks different now (lighter blue) so I guess the Android app is new -- version 3.0.4.10 on Samsung Galaxy S5. I can't access the version on PC, none of the online methods work for me. I can log on to web as well as run the desktop app with a newly reset password. I have disconnected my phone from the account. When I try to sign in I get a banner message "please enter a valid email address". This banner is above the email entry field, unlike the red message UNDER the email entry field when the email is not even an email format.Solved9.2KViews1like5Comments
