Request to complete Dropbox setup

Hello, on 31/10/2023 I received  a message from Dropbox<no-rep[ly@em-s.dropbox.com entitled "Attn: we recommend completing your Dropbox setup ASAP".

I already have a Dropbox account and do not require or have not knowingly requested another account.

Could this be a scam, an error on my behalf or a legitimate request  from Dropbox for some reason?

So should I complete setup or just ignore?

I have recently accepted an offer to upgrade to the new version of Outlook, could there be a link there for automatic data backup. Currently I do not have any auto backup for files other than screen shots.  Operating system Windows 10.

Thanks, Corenottm

  • Hi corenottm! Thanks for posting on the forum.

The domain of the sender seems to be a legit Dropbox one

Is there any chance the email was sent to another email address, that’s linked to a relatively new Dropbox account?

If not, then you can just ignore the message, and you don’t need to take any actions on your end.

Let me know if you receive more of those, though.

I've had a Dropbox account for years, so I was very surprised to get an email suggesting that I needed to complete my setup. Unlike some of the other messages in this forum, my email didn't include a "Get Started" button, but rather a "Continue" button. A screenshot is attached. Mousing over the Continue button reveals a URL starting with https://links.dropbox.com, but I haven't clicked on it.

Hey pauldavidmena, thanks for using Dropbox and welcome to our Community!

May I ask if you've ensured that the email is coming from one of the official Dropbox domains?

If it's indeed coming from an official Dropbox domain, it might have been sent by accident in which case you'd be safe to ignore.

In any case, please keep us posted!

Thanks for that quick response Nancy.

Will ignore and let you know if any repeat requests appear. I have no messages in my current Dropbox account.

Recieved this email urging me to complete my setup even though I've have been using my account for a long time now. Anyone else have this happen? See attached:
