The desktop app synced to my web account and my desktop files were overwritten.
Anyone know where they would have gone or how to roll back the sync?

Are these files that were in your Dropbox folder? If so, check your Events page and Deleted Files for any signs of the files.

There is nothing in the dropbox recycle bin, event files just say sync. There is nothing in the recycle bin on my PC. It looks like as dropbox hadn't synced for 10 days it synced to the web version deleting la the new files on my PC. I've tried right clicking on the PC to restore previous version but it say no previous versions available. If I go into Excel and try to use the file history it says file does not exist.

Hey Nedley. Can you send over a screenshot of what you see at your Events page?

After further checking its spread sheet back to 20.08.2024. Ive tried a file recovery program at which cost quite a lot and it found the spreadsheets that were missing but the were all corrupted.
Here is the screen shot.

I used another program which has uncorrupted the files and manged to restore all the files to bring my dropbox back up to date. I would very much like to know how to avoid this in the future as its turned out be quite expensive!
Thanks.v

Hey Nedley, glad to here that you resolved the issue!
It looks like there was an existing Dropbox folder in the default location on your computer, and you might've been shown a prompt (see screenshot) to rename the folder. This could explain why it seems like the previous files have disappeared—they were likely moved to the newly renamed folder.
Could you check if there’s a "Dropbox (Old)" folder or something similar on your computer? Your files might be there. There's a chance that the file recovery tool you used pulled them from the Old Dropbox folder or reverted the rename operation. Let us know what you find, and we’re happy to assist further if needed.
