Missing Apps folder for some users on our Dropbox team

Some users within our organization do not seem to have an Apps folder created for them within their user folder. Our dropbox application relies on this location as a common repository of files that are used as part of a content creation process, but the app will fail for all of the users who do not have this folder. As of right now there doesn't seem to be any commonality between which users on our team are affected. Is there any reason why this folder is not being created for some of our users?

Hi there, @JoedySANS, welcome to our Community!

The "Apps" folder is a non-shared folder that's created in one's account, once they connect a third-party app to said account.

Is it possible that the team members in question do not have this third-party app linked to their Dropbox?

You can read more about third-party app management here.

Let me know what you find.

The "Apps" (which is a localized name) folder is a folder for containing "app folders" and is automatically created in a user's Dropbox folder by Dropbox the first time that user connects an app with the "app folder" access type.

There are a few reasons it may not exist at "/Apps" in any given account at any given time:

    • the user never connected an app with the app folder access type
    • the user's account is/was set to a different language and so instead has a folder named with a translation of "Apps"
    • the user moved, renamed, or deleted the Apps folder

Thank you for the suggestions for why this folder might not be present for some of our users. We will do some more research with the affected users to see if we can verify the primary cause.

In cases where the folder is missing is there any way to regenerate the folder? Connecting another app (or possibly disconnecting/reconnecting our app) to see if that perhaps regenerates it?

Yes, connecting any app with the app folder access type would create the "Apps" folder (or translated version of it), if it doesn't already exist in the account, whether or not the user's account had one before.
